My morning just took a nose dive.....
My only progressive liberal radio station just this moment went silent.... followed by chatting in a language I don't understand, followed by some latin dance music.

Just what Boston was missing.........Who needs progressive talk when we can just do the Tango right?

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...........

God this sucks. I am a single working mom who really doesnt have the extra money to get satalite radio so I guess there is no more talk radio for me :(

Clear Channel can kiss my ass

3. Yeah at work I can
But not in the car, where I spend quite a bit of time. The whole thing makes no god damn sense unless you go with the stream of thought that this is Mitten Romney's way of getting back at us for throwing his snotty little bitch out of office.

The station won't last long. I am pretty sure 99.9 % of listens just turned off thier radio's in disgust. Latin music is pretty, but frankly, you can find it on other stations or pop in a cd.

5. That's a good reason to have an auxiliary input on your car stereo.
I use a program called streamripper (it's freeware) to rip streaming audio to mp3's, then load it on my portable mp3 player to listen to at my convenience in the car.

7. Thanx for the info on StreamRipper. I'll put it to good use.

And here's a link (Click) for anyone else that might be interested.

First, get an mp3 player (a portable CD player that plays mp3 CDs may even be cheaper).

Then, load it up with podcasts. Most of the hosts on progressive talk stations have them. You can find a ton of links on my site:

http://ltradio.blogspot.com/

Just scroll down the right-hand column.

Or go to White Rose Society:

http://www.whiterosesociety.org

Listen, and enjoy.

Now, you don't necessarily need to cough up the coin for an iPod or similar player. I listen alot in my car, so mp3 players aren't as useful to me. I recently installed an in-dash CD unit that plays discs with mp3 files on them. I simply burn the podcasts to CD-RW's and listen on the go. And I can listen to whatever I want, whenever I want.

It's a whole lot less work than streamripper, and files are often available rather quickly.

8. There are many kinds of Latin music to be sure
and I know it won't bring back your progressive talk station, but I can tell you one thing. It's impossible to feel bad listening to Mexican music, especially the Tejano kind with lots of accordians, guitars and fiddles. Even when the subject matter is depressing like death, drugs and la migra the music is so upbeat I can't help but cheer up. It's the best music in the world to drive along to.

14. While not wanting to sound racist...
there are other latin stations in the area..... but no liberal radio now. If I wanted to listen to latin music in a spanish speaking forum there are stations that have that. You would think in Boston it would be the opposite.

I do agree latin music is very pretty and upbeat, I'm just not a music in the car type person, I tend to zone out.

2. If I'm not listening to progressive radio, I'm not listening.
So there Clear Channel. No MSM TV either. It's amazing the things you don't buy and the money you save when you don't hear or watch ads on TV and radio.

10. Wow....you may have a point....
I have not watched TV in years. I swear that the only thing I spend money on is rent, food, world travel, and nights out with friends. I am so un-materialistic. It would be an interesting experiment for me to watch TV again and see if I became materialistic.....but I would rather not watch TV....I will spend my free time with friends and physical fitness.

6. You might have to make some aggressive changes to adjust.
Pod casts are a good idea. You can direct those through your car radio from you MP3 player while you drive.

And surely WBUR has something you can listen to...

11. I've stopped listening to AAR...
They have totally watered it down here in Austin, that I don't even bother anymore.

They took something innovative and creative and pushed it through the corporate meat grinder.

15. Something like that has to inherently be
supported by the listening public like NPR....it might have to be a subscription or something without corporate ads. The ads on AAR are quite annoying. I cannot tolerate commercial radio...or TV for that matter.

12. Drat!!!
I was just out in my car and tuned in to WKOX (Air America) and --- yup --- got a dose of Latin music.

Now, I'm a big fan of latin music -- but not at the expense of AA!

I think they've made a big mistake.

I'm a die-hard Stephanie Miller fan and the only time I can listen is when I'm driving - I'm a visiting nurse.
Just when did the change occur because I distinctly remember hearing Elaine Bousler this am.

17. Let them know what you think
FWIW

I called them and told the woman answering, that it sucked that they'd gotten rid of progressive radio. She said "Thank you, I'll put it in the book"

20. Listen long enough to find out who their sponsors are
and call them to tell them you will never buy their products again..and then call the radio station manager or write them to tell them you are boycotting the station and their sponsors..
