A stretch, even for Drudge

Matt Drudge has never been about a slavish devotion to the truth when it didn't suit his purposes, but his site today hits a new low.

As we write this, the Drudge Report is running an AP photo from today's presidential press conference; right now the headline under the photo reads "BUSH 'DEVIL HORNS' PIC HITS WIRES." Earlier this afternoon, the site was actually accusing the AP of deliberately giving the president devil horns; the headline then read "AP PHOTOGRAPHER GIVES BUSH 'DEVIL HORNS.'"

Take a look at the photo. (We'll wait.)



What's clear is that it is in fact the presidential seal, in front of which Bush is standing, that has created the devil horns. It didn't take any Photoshop magic to do this one; the backdrop is at fault, any rational viewer should quickly realize.

On a related note, this isn't the first time Drudge has fabricated a controversy like this; we just wanted to say that we feel awful for the poor intern who spends his or her life combing through the wires looking for photos like this. Frankly, we feel sort of dirty even commenting on it.

be hailing the picture as a miracle sign from God as evidenced by the halo on his head.
