What do you see as the top 3 issues in 2007 we must address?
Iraq, Impeachment, Health care, wages, gay rights, corporations, etc and so on.

I know we can focus on many issues at once but if you had to choose 3 to focus your personal energy on - both here on DU and via other methods - which would you see as needing to be taken care of first, and how do you recommend we get those issues to the forefront and keep them there until resolved?

7. I appreciate that, I do. But being serious, what could be more important than
avoiding having more Americans (and yes, Iraqis) getting killed or horribly maimed, for nothing?

I'm a product of the Viet Nam era in more ways than one. I've seen my country go down this path before, and I've seen the result of that journey. And it is NOT a pretty sight to see.

14. Here are a few more important things
* Making sure Americans have health care, so that people don't die from lack of treatment. (Don't forget, this isn't the Vietnam/draft era...the troops volunteered to risk their lives. No one has ever volunteered to get cancer, etc.--it's FORCED upon them. From little children to elderly people, they deserve compassion.)

* Making sure that innocent people can't be detained and tortured at the President's whim. In fact, let's ensure that Americans don't torture anyone AT ALL. We're supposed to be the good guys.

* Making sure Americans have housing, food, and basic necessities. A decent working wage would be nice, too, so they can afford these things.

Because we could pull out of Iraq tomorrow, and people would still be dying here, as they've been dying long before the Iraq war ever started.

It's just that suffering American families aren't as newsworthy, in the corporate media's eyes....

4. My top 2 are clean elections and free press - without them we
have our hands tied with the other issues - health care and Iraq would be the other 2 for me right now but I don't see why gay rights, impeachment and a living wage have any less importance or urgency.

...made probably while I was typing my response just below. Hmmm. It's hard to limit to top 3, there is so much to do absolutely including cleaning up our elections.

Ars longa, vita brevis est...

....(and I could be persuaded to fit an impeachment or three in there, too!)

13. Jobs, caring for the ailing/poor/disabled, getting out of Iraq.
By doing the latter, we'd have more $$$ to invest in accomplishing the other two goals.

To paraphrase Walter Mondale...we've rebuilt Germany, we've rebuilt Japan, and now it's time to rebuild America.

Sadly, I don't think anyone will ever bring the ailing, poor, or disabled to the forefront, because even many people here at DU tend to ignore that issue. As long as they're able-bodied, that's all that matters. Even John Edwards, who speaks out against poverty, rarely addresses the issue of those who *can't* work.

But he's on the right track in terms of Iraq and the working poor, so he's still my favorite of the candidates so far. :)

15. I wish that we could..
legislate corporate money out of government. On campaigns alone the amount of money spent is obscene. And the idea, that he who spends more wins is just so wrong. I would also like all the soldiers affected by this war, and their families, have easy access to whatever they need to recover, and if complete recovery is not possible, for the rest of their lives they should not need. And, any corporation making money in Iraq should ante up to foot the bill.
