she has outclassed the Donald by a mile this week. In this affair, I'm on team Rosie.

Trump should take a good look in a mirror before he insults the appearance of another, and he needs to do some honest reflection before he accuses anyone else of being ugly on the inside.

45. If I Approved Of Them Then I Wouldn't Have Characterized Them As Abrasive. So It's A Flawed Question
I also fail to see what in the world that has to do with me detesting that obnoxious, irritating, annoying, bitter, detestful, arrogant, shrill, childish, nasty and stomach turning thing that is Rosie.

Just because she literally makes me want to vomit that means I'm against all publicly known females?

What a ridiculously far-fetched and illogical insinuation that is. So sad when I see replies like that. So silly too.

62. How Do You Figure?
As soon as those buildings fell, she supported Bush. High intellect people were wishing for someone BETTER in the Oval office, and didn't worship the silverspoon idiot. It took her 4 years to figure out she got it wrong. Again, not an indicator of being the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Finally, she gave her to her own fears when she jumped on Silverspoon's bandwagon. That's not a sign of someone with an even bigger heart.

BTW: Not A Rosie hater, here. I have no interest either way. Don't love her. Don't loathe her. Pretty much don't care. But, i am baffled by your characterization of her intellect and heart. She strikes me as a little dense and quite selfish.

Nothing anyone says against this good and brave woman gets a pass from me. Ever. I'm sorry. But there's a lot that this woman has done that very few people even know about. That sucks!

Watch the HBO documentary http://www.hbo.com/docs/programs/allaboard/ and then feel free to join in and belittle her.

Until then, pleasae refrain from suggesting she is a coward.

Thank you.

She's very active in "Katrina kids" and has raised more money in helping those poor children than Donald could ever imagine. The feud between them is childish and Rosie did start it, but she is a comedian after all. What Donald ended up saying was down right mean and very immature. What is he, a 12 year old?

Chump is nothing more than an egotistical bastard with lots of money. He thinks he is better than everyone else. He thinks he is smarter than everyone else.

I don't know how Chump could deny that he wasn't involved in bankruptcies. He has had several bankruptcies although not personal. And I am sure that Rosie meant the bankruptcies of his business(es).

I haven't watched The View, but I'm so glad someone has finally called the chump on his shit. He is just too full of himself. There are a hell of a lot of overweight women in this country and I don't think they'll appreciate his name calling about that. I am waiting for him to throw out some insult about her being a lesbian.

I remember when his casino in Atlantic City filed for bankruptcy...I mean that takes f*cking work to bankrupt a casino...shit, the odds are in the House's favor. What a dolt. And now he has 'Chump University' where he is going to tell Americans how to get rich...what a joke.

25. Trump is acting like an ass!
Edited on Thu Dec-21-06 10:01 PM by BattyDem
Rosie said the exact same thing as every woman I know: "Where the hell does Trump get off judging someone else's morality? The man dumped two wives for younger women!"

Here's my two cents worth ...
Trump has a right to expect Miss USA (who represents his organization) to behave a certain way in public. HOWEVER, if she was not living up to her obligations, he should have met with her and laid it on the line: "Shape up and get help or you're out!" There was NO reason to publicly humiliate the young lady. Why did he do that to her?

About Rosie's "hair" remarks: his comb-over is ridiculous! He is a billionaire and can easily afford a good hairpiece or a hair transplant. He could also be bald ... period! I have no problem with bald men, but those comb-over guys are a real turn off. Sorry guys. I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings, but trust me - women HATE the comb-over! Be bald and beautiful ... most of us don't mind at all! :-)

Trump had every right to respond to Rosie's comments about "Miss USA" and the suggestion that he used the situation for publicity. BUT ... the anger, sexism and pure venom that he is spewing at her is APPALLING! I hope that every women's rights organization and every "full-figured ladies" advocacy group NAILS him! He is an obnoxious, sexist pig! :grr:

I have detested her for years, as have many people. It's not about her looks at all. It is about her entire persona and attitude. I just can't even stomach listening to her for a minute. There's just something about her that has always completely and utterly repulsed me. Every RW radio host I can think of, if they count at all. I'm sure there are others but I'm a bit tired and can't think off the top of my head. But I'm sure there are quite a few. I'll get back to ya with more when I have a fresher head. :)

On edit: Ben Stein too. He's always irritated me as well. I know there are many others, but it's pissin me off that I can't think of them right now. I know there are quite a few that when I see on tv on change the channel. I'll let you know as more come to me.

What, you can't have a life and detest someone at the same time? That's the silliest friggin thing I've ever heard.

You keep throwing these silly arguments or attacks out there as if your feelings are hurt or something by someone not liking rosie. It seems like you are so sensitive about God forbid somebody not praising her, that you need to attack someone for holding that view. I'd say being that wrapped up and sensitive about someone not liking someone that you like, shows that it is you and not me that needs to get a life; with all due respect. :hi:

accent. Apologies to Long Island, NY residents (where she was born), but her accent is like nails on chalkboard to me. Is her accent a LI accent anyway? I'm not sure. Anyway, it grates on me. I'm sort of embarrassed that my whole attitude is based on the way she talks, but that's the way it is. :o

I just can't. I give her props for the good things that she does, and I acknowledge her strength and outspoken demeanor at times but she's a classic limosine liberal.

As for what she said about the Donald- probably right on the mark. He was relevant in the 80's "greed is good" climate but now he's just another loser with a reality TV show.

They're practically identical except for the obvious gender difference.

They're both outlandish and rude egoists and whose only claim to celebrity is celebrity itself.
Both are morally bankrupt, holier-than-thou shitheads I wish would both shut up.
And both are serial feuders, on any given day each one of them has a shitlist at least 10 people deep.

F'em both.

I like Rosie and Donald too but I think the Miss USA hoopla was a total joke-like who cares? And spare us the fake crocodile tears would ya Miss USA?! :eyes:

However for Rosie & Donald to get into it over this is just totally ridiculous and ugly. They both went down a notch in my opinion, not that they were as high up on my list as say, Gore, RFK Jr., Michael Moore, Cindy Sheehan or Oprah (who has annoyed me some this year also). But at least you don't see any of them spewing their dirty laundry all over the place! Like seriously, if you are gonna spew some venom on national t.v., how about aiming it at * and his fellow criminals who are destroying this country and the Constitution? Now there's something to b*tch about!

75. I'm appalled by those showing so much hatred to Rosie. Watch this documentary & then attack her.
There are a LOT of things that Rosie has done quietly and in big ways to help those less fortunate than herself. She has never ran from a bully and I will always be grateful to her for the many, many things of courage she has done.

Shame on all of you (mostly men) who are taking such cheap shots about someone you don't even know. I hope you will take the time to see Rosie in this documentary and then come back and tell me how much you "detest" her and how much she "repulses" you.

Oh, and happy holidays, too.

86. Again---what James Wolcott wrote about this:
I see those defending Trump over Rosie in this dispute as those who agree with what Trump has said about her.

The War of the Rosie

In raging times, one must take sides, and I have taken mine.

My sympathies are clear and unequivocal.

I support Rosie O'Donnell.

Not in every instance, not in every utterance, not in every dispute, but generally, predominantly, and temperamentally I find myself on her side when controversy erupts.

As it has done in the last two days with the belching assault on her character, talent, looks, career, and sexual orientation by the oafish Donald Trump. Commenting on the teary psychodrama that Trump staged this week to pardon Miss USA Tara Conner for her trespasses (a media spectacle Steve Gilliard filed under the blogline "This is fucked up") and to enjoy a free tanning session under the TV lights, Rosie noted that Trump's own track record in the marital department made him a dubious enforcer of morals clauses. She also made reference to his sweeping comb-over, a comment not likely to win favor with his vanity.

It was perfectly appropriate for Trump to issue an oral riposte or two. Given the Marie Antoinette flounciness of his vanity, a pettish outburst from him was to be expected. But what he gave vent to on The Insider and then on Good Day LA (an interview receiving heavy rotation on Fox News all day) was unpardonably ugly, sexist, homophobic, and plain hateful. To label her repeatedly a loser ("Rosie's a loser"), to disparage her weight and looks ("a very unattractive person," ""Rosie O'Donnell is disgusting, I mean both inside and out" "Take a look at her, she's a slob"), to toss lewd little darts about her lesbianism (praised by the fawning Fox interviewer for giving Tara Conner a second chance, Trump smirked, "I think Rosie's given a lot of girls second chances"),--this was a classic exhibition of the Donald's male chauvinist piggery. And that's a dated phrase, well, Trump's a dated man, exemplifying "class" with a capital K.

So one doesn't expect him to rise above criticism, but to drag criticism down to his coarse level, which he did. (He also repeatedly asserted that The View's ratings were anemic , without any of the interviewers risking incurring his wrath by noting that The Apprentice's ratings have been a downhill climb since season one.)

What I didn't expect, listening to Trump, was to hear him allude to Rosie O'Donnell as "that animal."

"That animal." As if she were livestock unfit to walk upright in the same world as Trump's, or a bug to be squashed beneath his pompous thumb. "That animal"--I'm sorry, but that's so far over the line that you can't even see the line from where those words land. It reflects a contempt that runs even deeper than the contempt Trump spits out regarding those he deems "losers" (i.e., anyone not as rich as he is).

I suspect and expect that one of the themes of 2007 will be the Arrogance of the Super Rich. If so, Trump's Elvis pout and toxic demeanor are getting next year's theme off to a flying start.

Trump owns the pageant. He gave her a second chance. So what? Why attack him unless you're desperate to get your own name out there? Rosie started a fight that she lost control of. I don't really care for either of them-but it's hard to feel bad for her.

94. When people question Dr. Laura's morals based on her (bad) past behavior, we're all ok with that BUT
God forbid you hold Trump's feet to the fire for the same thing.

I think some people like to vent their internal misogyny on female hyprocrites but balk at criticizing male hypocrites. Trump has a questionable past history and, quite frankly, he is no moral arbiter. Rosie was right about that AND the woman's a comedian for chrissake. Trump would have done best to brush it off and say that anyone who listens to comedians for moral guidance is just silly. But, methinks the combover comment hurt him more than the morals comments, and I think his vanity got way too bruised so he lashed out.

95. Trump wasn't doing anything similar to Dr. Laura, who makes
a career out of giving people advice. Trump bought the beauty pageant. Trump has to make decisions. Did he make a bad one? I don't know. I don't care. He's not a non-sequitur waxing poetic on the moral turpitude in said beauty pageant. Frankly, I could give two shits. Rosie made some malicious comments about him, and he responded in kind. And frankly, his comments were directly provoked and more effective then anything Rosie said.

I don't feel bad for either one of them.

97. Trump was acting as a moral arbiter in his position vis a vis the pageant
And if you don't care about either of them that's fine.

But it's a pattern that a woman who speaks up gets vilified. Rosie made a comment that Trump was not the best person for the job of moral arbiter, done as part of her comedic commentary. Wonder what would have happened if Jay Leno had made the same comment. (Leno often makes comments like these in his act. I've never heard anyone publically attack back, though I may have missed something.) I'll bet Trump wouldn't have skewered his looks and hinted that he could take his wife away from him.

Dr. Laura gets vilified for her opinions (and some are truly awful opinions), but the vilification is about her past sexual history and the naked photos appearing on the net, something I blame Bill Balance for, not Schlessinger. Trump is a bloviating asshole with a bad combover but he has his defenders here at DU. Never fails to amaze me.

98. She's getting vilified because of the context in which her comments were made.
She spouted lies about his financial status, past and present, and made disparaging remarks about his personal life. She ended it with "sit and spin".

If you think Trump responded to her because she's a women, that's your prerogative. I've never seen jay Leno spout off falsehoods in such a mean spirited, unfunny manner. Rosie came off as hateful.

But, it's subjective at best.

What other women get vilified simply for being women? I'm going through my head and thinking of women that say ugly things that I find annoying/tasteless/stupid. Here are the top offenders:

1. Coulter
2. Malkin

Those are the only two(that I can think of). Ok, so that's from my head. Now, let's look at the media. What women are being vilified by the media du jour? we have Nancy Grace(inspired someone to kill herself), Madonna(something about a cross-masturbation?), Gweneth(sic?) Paltrow-she made some comments about the US that were translated wrong....

It all seems the same to me. Hell, it almost seems like a cop out. Men and women are vilified all the time. I don't think being a women makes it worse. Anyway, just my two cents.

100. that isn't true
she was referring to a specific event that she thought (and I agree) was ridiculous, and that was Trump staging this big press conference to announce that he was not going to punish this 20-year-old girl for partying too much. Rosie's point was that most 20-somethings party and Donald is hardly in any position to make moral judgments on anyone.

His response was right off of an elementary school playground. Rosie is a fatty. Neener Neener Neener.

Edited on Wed Dec-27-06 12:09 PM by WinkyDink
lowered the entire episode---and himself---to gutter-level. She noted his well-known and well-publicized adultery, legacy $$, and bankruptcies. HE called her "ugly, fat, big-mouthed"; insulted the fidelity of her partner and the strength of THEIR relationship (proving Rosie's point about his contempt for loving relationships) by suggesting he could get someone to lure her away from Rosie; betrayed the confidence of "my friend" Barbara Walters---if, indeed, he is telling the truth---by revealing her dislike of Rosie; mocked her sexuality (that Rosie would have wanted to crown Miss USA, heh heh); and, in general, ranted on and on in vulgar fashion. And why?

Because Rosie did 2 things anathema to Trump: told the truth about him; and made fun of his hair.

Trump also revealed, to any females besides Melania who might like him, his loathing of any women NOT Melania-like in appearance.

both Donald Trump and Rosie O'Donnell are both wastes of television time. People should spend that time with their children, or reading a good classic novel. (I am currently reading Anna Karenina by Tolstoy.) I think the bantering between Rosie and Donald is only being done to help pump each other up in the press and to help generate ratings.
