Poll question: The Gender-based Rosie-Donald Poll
If you've been following the Rosie v. Donald dust-up, at all, what's your take on these two people?

7. They're tearing out each others' throats...
...metaphorically speaking, that is. If you're near a TV with cable, turn on Anderson Cooper 360. He's going to cover it.

Also, here's an article: http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/ny-etrosie1221,0,1244103.story?coll=ny-hsbball-headlines&track=mostemailedlink

19. I agree, for the most part, but...
...as I said below, the combover impersonation was a bit beneath her.

...who do matter but shouldn't have blotted out the sky, in terms of what's newsworthy. My interest in the Rosie-Donald carnival is not in the substance of the feud but in gender-based responses to the whole thing. :hi:

11. Rosie's being unfairly targeted
When the Aiken-Ripa thing came up, I thought it was peculiar. Then the Danny DeVito 10 second nothing video, that was hyped all out of proportion. Now this.

I wish people would stop thinking this crap is all about ratings. Scarborough and Tucker have been after her since the day she went on the air. That's why I'm with Rosie. Fuck these right wing assholes. They're just afraid of her is all.

I think Rosie's wrong about the Miss USA, everyone deserves a second chance. But Donald's fair game, and he is no moral paragon so what's his problem anyway.

17. I was with Kelly Ripa on the Clay Aiken thing.
Edited on Thu Dec-21-06 11:14 PM by Fridays Child
Nobody--and I mean NOBODY--puts their hands on my mouth, precisely because hands are dirty. The way Kelly put it ("who knows where that hand has been") is a typical thing a mom would say to her kids, and Kelly has little kids. Additionally, she has no history, whatsoever, of homophobia. Neither did she attack Rosie. She simply defended herself in a dignified manner

But, in this case, Rosie was on pretty safe ground when she called into question Donald's creds as a moral comnpass for twenty-year olds. He could have just taken the thumping and moved on. Or he might have defended himself by providing information to show that he has other redeeming qualities which enhance his morality scorecard, so to speak. Instead, however, he attacked Rosie for her looks and for her business failures. He took the low road and, in so doing, proved that Rosie was right about him.

One thing, though, Rosie shouldn't have made fun of Donald's combover. That's no better than Donald ridiculing her for her looks. To her credit, when Joy Behar asked her to reprise her combover impersonation, today, she declined. But it would be nice if she would apologize for ever doing it, in the first place.

22. But national news?
I don't particularly care one way or another about Aiken and Ripa, their business to resolve. As well as whatever Kelly and Rosie have to say to each other about it. That's not what I mean. Why the hell does this stupidity become national news? They're targeting Rosie, that's why. Another liberal loon, even Barbara Walters. Can't trust any of them. That's what they want people to think.

23. It is what it is--another episode of silly celebrity antics.
My real intention was to poll DUers who were up on the story, simply, to see if males tend to side against Rosie. In general, it does seem that men are, sometimes, uncomfortable with verbally assertive women. But it doesn't seem to be stacking up that way, in this case. That probably (but not conclusively) reflects nicely on the male membership here.

As for my comments to you about Kelly Ripa, Clay Aiken, Rosie, and Donald, you can be assured that I was just indulging in a little non-political opinion-sharing, as a diversion from the more serious political issues of the day. No biggie.

:hi:

25. Males are more dismissive
It is interesting that twice as many women side with Rosie, and twice as many men think it's all ratings - or basically don't care at all.

I know you were just indulging in silly talk, me too. I was just explaining what it is about this that bugs me, because otherwise I'd just roll my eyes and say they all need a binky to plug their pieholes.

I thought the poll was going to be about who believed Rosie was a female and Trump was a man.

In other words, they're a perfect match.

16. I Side With Neither. They've Both Shown They Need To Grow Up.
Outside of that, I prefer Trump over that other obnoxious character any day.

But in this battle, there is nothing but pettiness and immaturity from both, and it is definitely pretty ridiculous to see such news time on it.

20. Neither one has any class in my estimation...
Donald Trump (The Pageant Pimp) is mouthing off like some drunken sailor.
Instead of being an example of integrity to the business community, he is coming off as some high school kid who wants to get even with a bully. It's disgusting behaviour for two so called adults who are prominent in the media.
We know Rosie shoots from the hip, and says what she thinks which doesn't excuse her childishness of course. But that's Rosie.
A man like Trump who is confident in himself and his abilities should'nt have to resort to this level of boorishness. He needs to take some classes in decorum and sophistication. Be an example

24. It's obviously about ratings.
What Donald did was about ratings. Duh. Rosie knows that; she's a showbiz girl. And so Rosie's attacks on his morality were, then, ratings-driven. And Donald knows that. It's all about ratings, and it seems blindingly obvious.

26. I don't know about ratings. This has escalated into a blood bath..
of huge proportions. There are dozens of other ways to get ratings without stooping to this level of evil.
I sense a strong current of genuine animosity coming from both of them. A small part could be the exposure componenet, but I think the larger part is actual hatred for each other.
