On Rights
I am a carnivore - but I support animal rights.

I am a man - but I support women's rights.

I am straight - but I support gay rights.

I am not Black, Jewish, Native American, or a lot of other things - but I support their rights too.

In short I support and respect the rights of all things. As to why each is important, and why they are related...

I support animal rights because even though meat tastes good, an animal being tortured to death so it costs me a dollar less is very unappealing. No living thing needs to be tortured or suffer just so I can have what I want a little faster, easier or cheaper.

I support women's rights because I am a human being first and foremost and I care about my fellow humans, more than I care about animals yes, but it is the same principal. This does not mean I want women to receive special privilege, however they do deserve equality and respect as everyone else does. I support a woman's right to choose, because I ain't the one who has to carry around a baby in my gullet for 9 months.

I support gay rights for the same reasons above. Everyone and everything deserves respect, compassion and equality. Gay people should be allowed to get married, adopt kids and have the same equal rights as everyone else. If God is the basis of your argument as to why they can't, you need to outlaw shellfish right away or shut up. I seriously doubt God is going to strike us all down because Brian and Dave or Susan and Felicia get married, have a loving household and raise some half way decent kids.

And the rest... well I am not marginalizing, but it should be pretty obvious where I am going with this and that my feelings are pretty clear that everyone should be able to have their fair chance at life without discrimination or having the deck stacked against them.

Peace.

1. K&R. Great post!
As a fellow straight white male meat-eater, I agree 100%!
