My take on Rosie and Donald.....
Edited on Fri Dec-22-06 12:20 AM by The Straight Story
Back in the 1980's I was a security guard at Alum Crest Nursing home here in Columbus, Ohio.

I knew male and female nurses who changed bed pans, wiped people's butts who could not do it themselves, sat by the bedside of folks who had no idea where they were...and, well, you get the picture.

And so you two sit there bitching about your billions, or slamming someone on your TV show, and all of the sudden America is supposed to notice you and plaster you all over TV. Enriching you both even more.

And for what???

So you have Billions of dollars Donald. Rosie has her TV show.

And that nurse sitting alone with a near comatose patient watching your show as she cares for some poor soul has what??

What a fucked up society we have become when our news is dominated by such shit.

No wonder people get depressed. They aspire to greatness - never realizing greatness is the little things we do for each other, not how much ass we show or how asinine we show ourselves to be.

We celebrate the rich who have done for themselves, and ignore the little people who have done for others. We aspire to enrich our own selves, while ignoring those that have enriched the lives of others.

Screw you Rosie and Donald. Tonight my thoughts will be with the real Americans in our country as I lay down to sleep. The people who aren't on TV bitching about each other - the people who are working as I am typing this in our retirement homes, hospitals, etc.

Quit your fucking whining and get off my TV.

1. Right on.
Why anybody gives a rat's ass about those two self-absorbed whiners is beyond me. It's bad enough that a couple of people who have everything are carrying on like babies because they've been dissed in public, but it's so much worse that with all the genuine pain and grief and hardship in the world, and all the good, decent people who are just trying to keep body and soul together, anybody pays attention to them at all.

For a "values" society, I think we have ours on backwards.

I think Rosie is doing exactly what she was hired to do. Funny how often 'The View' has been in the news lately, eh?

Much ado about nothing.

4. uh...how did she get into your room, and on top of your TV?
wait a minute!

she'd hiding inside?

No?

Oh, I see. you had to watch her as she broadcast what you watched.

did somebody hold you down, pry your eyes open, ala the Ludovico technique and force you to watch her?

you should be calling the cops on those people, shouldn't you?

you WERE forced to watch that stuff, weren't you?

5. Uhm, it was on the news
So if someone watched the news, then yeah that stuff was forced on them. That's how I saw it.

Of course, the attack on Rosie has definitely done its job. In just 3 months, she's been completely villified, which is evident by this thread. That's how they work, and yet people keep denying it.

7. guess I missed that law that says you can't change channels when
something that annoys you as much as this contretemps apparently did the OPer.

Trump is just about at the very top of my list of people who cause me to change channels the INSTANT I see his disgusting visage pop onto the screen

while I agree with the thrust the rest of the post, I wouldn't have wasted my time on someone as obnoxious as Trump. I'd just have changed channels and thought about something else.

that said, another poster on another thread annoyed me so much that I'm in the process of sealing a $5K bet with him on whether Trump will sue/win his threatened slander suit against her

so I got that going for me

I can't believe people have $5,000 to toss around so frivilously, I really can't. If you've got $5000 to hand off to someone else and not miss it, then you may as well give the whole thing away.

As if somehow giving a percentage to DU made such frivilous use of money acceptable. Shocking and horrible, offensive behavior. Maybe you feel offended because you know your behavior is indefensible.

"Nobody's that stupid?" You say you're doing the same thing 'the idiot' is, so what does that make you?

Now....when I win that money, I'm going to spend it all on.......let's see

6. both irritating and puzzling people
puzzling as to what the appeal is - Rosie is a talentless annoyance and the trump character inherited a fortune and has not managed to make it grow with even the same rate as inflation. Two talentless non-enties and yet they continue to command both attention and millions of dollars. As a nursing home administrator I have to agree- we reward the wrong things in this country. I pay my CNA's and nurses as much as I can but they deserve a hell of a lot more than these two wastes of skin.

public forum! We idolize those with money in this country, don't you think?

If Rosie or Donald were not dealing with insecurity issues, they wouldn't have to put the other down to feel worthy, I just pity them. Life is too short for such mindless bs.

11. that's how people like them make it in the first place: by taking advantage
of their dysfunctionalities, and exploiting them.

they're just shrewd/fortunate enough to have gotten to the top of the mountain by fooling millions of people into caring about their mental illness

lucky them

they're just 'higher class' (to some) versions of the denizens of Jerry Springer, or any of the other myriad horroshows that drive the profit machine

18. people with real creative talent are ignored and dissed
I know. I've got musical talent and artistic talent and so do millions of other people. I'm not unique.

So do we get publicity, government subsidies, support for the arts and all that? Like they do in Europe, because they realize that the arts are essential to civilized society???

HELL NO.

We get publicity hound people starting petty little fights and the alleged "news" shows give them time. :puke:

20. Take heart in what you do, you do make a difference. I was a
totally concrete, black and white thinker, that was how I was wired. When the left/right brain discussions started. I thought, Wow, how cool would it be to expose myself to the artistic, creative side (at 29).

It changed my whole persona, I can't believe how much change in my personal awareness became after I actively pursued an interest in the Arts! I luckily, fostered that in other concrete types, who also grew from the exposure!

I buy hand crafted art, now, manufactured has to be really outstanding to pique my interest! I go to Musicals, museums, and even the Opera in Austria.

The US culture does not put enough value on the Arts (the money is in the Math, Science, etc, or at least it WAS, my forte), and yet, my personal being became so much more when I embraced the artistic environment!

I think that when we emerge from this Dark Age, once again, the Arts will be the driving force in our innovative period. Science brings great breakthroughs in our advancement, until, those evil cretins, find a way to use it for malice.

I truly believe we are again in the Enlightenment period, you all will once again lead the way!

24. Empty the MSM bedpan
and we would instantly go back to the days of one or two channels of mostly inferior programming and desperate efforts at unaccustomed quality. The wasteland's hollow people are really noisy in the oafishly occupied echo chamber.

The whole issue of the arts is a vast gulf away from even being intelligently discussed as a possible issue. The gatekeepers of culture in every business dominated medium have swirled everything into a unified mush of conformity and garbage, very much as what happens in the stomach and colon. Every art and connected industry is more likely to sink under incompetent and greed dominated business practices than to allow any glimmer of practice quality to seep through.

Then it gets worse as the balloon of such fake culture pops. It is not a new or uniquely American problem. It is just the triumphant apotheosis of the Staggering Giant bellowing nonsense while Rome burns
that makes the whole and each corrupted part or person into little Neros strutting a stage of obscene irrationality and horror.

I am now ticking off the decades since: I read anything on the vaunted bestseller list, payed any attention to a cultural celebrity or appreciated their work, watched network news for news(or anything else), personally watched a syndicated American series, respected anyone on radio or TV or any newspaper as having a valued expert and unbiased opinion. And the exceptions prove the rule because the gems in the mess are not only obvious but besieged in a Truth Archipelago across the fat landscape.

28. It's bad enough that this society relies so much on material wealth
Edited on Fri Dec-22-06 03:23 PM by Morgana LaFey
as a measurement of "success," but I think what's almost sadder -- yes, indeed sadder, is the people who turn resentful when otherwise good folks -- OUR side folks -- happen to become successful and become well off to wealthy.

It's terribly unbecoming.

Worse, it's bad for the resentful person. It generates toxic chemicals into their bodies, and it also helps prevent the resentful ones from achieving material success themselves. After all: if you hate wealth, how could you "allow" yourself to become wealthy? If poverty is more "enriching," then poverty is what you'll "achieve." Psychologists will tell you very clearly that you will likely sabotage yourself before you allow yourself to succeed in ways that you deeply and passionately disapprove of.

I recall rather vividly that the author of the OP has some "money issues" at the moment. Yet he deeply resents those who exhibit and model wealth. He might very well want to look at his relationship to and with money, and with himself (in terms of how "deserving" he thinks HE is of having material success).

We all might. One clue (just to hammer it home): resentment is counterproductive.

32. I wouldn't say I'm a fan.
I don't DISlike her. I don't have any misogynist or homophobia-based problems with her either. I appreciate her talent, her guts and sometimes her humor. I thought her comments about Trump were hilarious: "And suddenly Trump is the moral compass for young people in America??" LOL. Too true, too true. And her imitation of him wasn't half bad either, with her lips all pursed.

But if you think my post was about any of that, you're way wrong. You might want to read it again.

They both benefit from this. THe media is what makes me sick. Someone upthread said just turn off the TV. Well, I'm an admitted news junkie and for the last 24 hours it has been on EVERY damn channel. Anderson Cooper was talking about it for crying out loud, it was on the Today Show; no doubt it's on FOX though I wouldn't know. Sheesh. I finally just tuned in to my DVR and pulled up some MASH reruns to escape the damn hullaballoo.

FIRST -

he says he could send people over and Rosie's Wife could disappear, and...

SECONDLY -

he says Rosie "has a DEATH WISH".

Dude obviously got his insecure feelings trampled on by Rosie's sarcastic impression of him and is going nutty, and rather threatening towards Ms. O'Donnell.

Donald - don't embarrass yourself further by arguing with a sarcastic daytime comedian, you're obviously out of your league because all you can do is threaten her life and those of who she loves and say she's a loser. Boy, big man! You've made a joke of yourself to millions with this! Ignore the big mouth (who I think is funny), because you root against Bush like she does, can't you two group together on that point?
