I mean just consider what a 100 hour work week is like.

That's pretty much 9AM-2AM from Monday through Friday. 17 hour days at 1.5 kills an hour. Plus, lots of time eating pistachios in the back of your Town Car while you wait for the target to get home.

Maybe Saturday is a little easier. 9AM-7PM or so. A 10 hour day, and you get to watch football games on the iPod while you wait for the target to get home.

And Sunday they maybe work 5 hours in the afternoon. A 5 hour day. At least they don't have to kill people until after church.

Hit men rarely are able to take vacation days or keep up with social engagements. Most of their girlfriends and wives eventually leave them when they look in the trunk. Most are very lonely people and the only way they can get sex is through roughing up call-girls or dating someone's Italian niece who only loves them for their power anyway, and who they don't dare touch because it might tick off the Don.

All of their profits are garnished by the head of the family, and then there are dues to pay to the other five families.

And then there is gun upkeep, latex gloves, ammunition, a new Town Car every year, Italian suits, shoes, dress shirts, ski masks, and bribe money.

Is the sacrifice worth it? Not to me. It just ends up in a prison sentence, or at the bottom of the lake, quite frankly. But if you want to "clean" and terrify millions this is what is required.

Seriously, whether someone works very hard at a negative job, or very easy, should not change the fact that it is negative that 1) such a job exists and 2) particularly high salaries for such a job deserve extra derision, on top of the derision for the fact that the job even exists.

But people from ethnic groups that have been part of the mainstream as long as we, are past the point of that i would guess. Remember that NYC had a mayor from our old country more than 70 years ago! I think that constitutes "mainstream".

Funny, I didn't consider people of Italian descent to be a "race." Maybe an ethnicity. Try calling me an "ethnicist" and see how that works.

The Mafia was traditionally (and proudly) Italian, so my relating a Mafia jest to a hypothetical Italian character is not, imho, indicative of ethnicism, er, racism.

What you do not realize, though, is that my comment was actually a clever critique of non-Italians, and a lamentation of the victimized status of Italians. For everyone knows the CIA created the Mafia in postwar Italy to murder rising communist party officials, after which it helped it come to America to control money laundering, prostitution, and elimination of political opponents. Therefore, when I said "Italian," I was referring with sad empathy to the plight of the Italian people victimized by the monster America's own CIA created.

Final note: this was NOT just an attempt at humor, however bad. It was to make the point I said above: that just because someone works a lot, I will not condone them making an excessive salary if their job choice is unnecessary and/or evil.
