CAIR leaders would like to see the US under Islamic Law?
I've heard this several times from right-wingers, as one of their justifications for being anti-Muslim. Even if it's true - even if they privately desire to see Islamic Law - WHO CARES? We have politicians in Congress who would love to see Christian fundamentalism as the basis for our legal system. I'm much more afraid of them, because they're the ones who are actually in power and can pass their laws!

1. Considering some aspects of Islamic law ...
Women deemed subservient and inferior to men.
Gays stoned to death.
Required prayer 5 days a day.

You'd think they'd be all over this.

2. That's ridiculous.
I've never seen anything from CAIR that remotely suggests this. Why don't you just ask the wingers for some evidence; a quote- anything.

4. Personally, it doesn't really matter
Even *if* they privately hold those views, what would it matter? Let's assume for the sake of argument that they would like to see Islamic law in this country. It just isn't going to happen. That's why have this little thing called "separation of church & state". I did ask someone one time exactly how Muslims would go about instituting Sharia law in this country, given the framework of the Constitution. Strangely enough, they really couldn't answer that one.

6. "It isn't going to happen"
Well yes it isn't, but not for the reasons you cite. The theocrats are busily knocking apart the legal restrictions on religious intrusion into government in their so far successful efforts to slowly transform our secular republic into a theocratic republic. The little thing called separation of church and state is at this point largely a fiction. The supreme court is one vote away from making the theocrat's dream reality.

7. Of course it matters. It's a deliberate
lie to slur CAIR, and by association, all Muslims.

I challenge you to find any statement from CAIR itself, rather than from the numerous rightwing hategroups actively lying about CAIR, that indicates that CAIR's policy is to promote the adoption of shariah as the legal system for the United States.

8. If CAIR's constituents really wanted Islamic law
most of them (excluding the native born) would not have emigrated to the US in the first place - there are plenty of countries out there that would satisfy this desire.
