I think it's time to clear up some misconceptions about the power of the Executive Branch |

#1. Bush is the Commander-in-Chief. It's wrong to question his authority because of that.
Bush is not the Commander-in-Chief of the citizens of the US, he's the Commander-in-Chief of the ARMED FORCES. Unless you are in the armed forces, you have no obligation to never disrespect the Commander-in-Chief.
#2. We are fighting a war, Bush can do whatever he needs to see that the US is protected.
The Constitution and the Checks and Balances that come with it do NOT get suspended just because we enter a period of war. This was made so the United States does not have to endure tyranny.
#3. The President has war powers, he can do whatever he wants.
Bush has the power to command the military, that's it. Imagine the military as a car, Bush is the driver, but he is a teenager. Only Congress can give him the keys to the car, they tell can tell him where to go, what things to do, and they can revoke his privileges at any time. Once again, this was done to prevent tyranny from reaching the shores of the United States.
We need to make it an issue in 2008 for the next President to remember what the powers and responsibilities of the Executive Branch are, how they are defined in the Constitution, and make sure that he/she will stick to what is defined in it.

2. Actually, congress cannot "revoke his priveleges at any time" |
|
They can cut off his allowance, but that takes guts to stand up to all the creeps who think it's cruel or who have not availed themselves of available current and historical information.
The unfortunate results of this unhappy scenario is that we are governed by the lowest common denominator.

3. The oath is to the U.S. Constitution, not to the CIC |
|
If a soldier considers the CIC to be an "enemy, foreign or domestic" who threatens the Constitution, that officer may take any action necessary to uphold that oath. Better not be wrong or outnumbered in that judgment, however.
