Matthews: Gore is "the Hindenburg"
Matthews: Gore is "the Hindenburg"

On the December 21 edition of MSNBC's Hardball, host Chris Matthews asked Washington Times editorial page editor Tony Blankley if former Vice President Al Gore was "in fighting weight" and then said of Gore: "He's the Hindenburg."
From the December 21 edition of MSNBC's Hardball:
BLANKLEY: If you're a contender, one of the lesser contenders, you want to stay there in case the front people fall apart. And the other person we haven't mentioned is Al Gore, who's probably going to get an Academy Award for his documentary.
And if he then came out of an Academy Award and announced, "Now I'm going to run," then I would have to say --
MATTHEWS: Is he gonna -- is he in fighting weight?
BLANKLEY: You mean his tummy size?
MATTHEWS: Yeah.
BLANKLEY: I don't know. He can get down. Like me, he knows how to get up and down.
MATTHEWS: Fifteen pounds? He's the Hindenburg. I don't think he can --
SWEET: If we're kind of spinning scenarios here, that's the big question mark. If Gore got in, that would change everything --
MATTHEWS: I mean, the strongest ticket would be Al Gore and (Sen. Barack) Obama (D-IL). I think that would be an awesome ticket.

8. both i think. n/t
It's almost funny to see media talking catty about a *man* being 'too fat' for a change. As if Gore were fat. And really it's not funny - or relevant.

But they end saying Gore and Obama would be an awesome ticket. And I agree with that - that would be awesome.

And Tweety has a huge moon face that's so pale you could signal ships with it - should he be on television? Works both ways, Matthews.

11. I totally agree.
In fact, just had a conversation last night with a 24 year old who has no interest in politics. He is, however, very interested in Obama. When I suggested a Gore/Obama ticket he got excited and said he would vote for the first time if that was a choice.

18. I don't know about that....
Edited on Fri Dec-22-06 01:24 PM by marmar
In the Mountain West - the Colorados and Nevadas of the world - I don't think so. And let's be real, even a white male Southerner like Al Gore couldn't win his home state in the South. They're just not going to vote for a Democrat, whether it's Wesley Clark, Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton. This Obama's a liability meme is tired.

Folks in the midwest love to embrace their own. My Kansas relatives (all repubs) are excited about him and want him to run.

19. Not sticking up for Blankley here, but he was dismissing the weight issue.
Tony Blankley can make my skin crawl, but Chris was the idiot in this case. He's been more bizarre than usual lately. It was good that both knew that a Gore/Obama ticket would be AWESOME. I'm not an Obama cheerleader for President in 2008 as yet, but I would love to see him as VP first, then President.

17. Now do y'all understand? Now do you get it why we shouldn't give a FUCK about these clowns?
So Joe Scarborough and Chris Matthews felt betrayed and disillusioned by the Iraq fiasco and Bush's ineptitude?

Oh really? That was SO two days ago.

Today, it's all about Al Gore's weight and other inifinitely more substantive issues.

Fuck the Beltway Kool Kidz with a chainsaw. Call them on their lies, hold them accountable for their distortions, but don't ever, EVER assume that they are going to care, in the long run, about anything real other than themselves and their paychecks.

FUCK THEM.

24. Matthews, IMHO, is really rooting for Edwards and he really wants to
believe in Obama. He's been looking for every reason under the sun to back Obama too.
