Director Gus Van Sant arrested in Portland for DUI

PORTLAND, Ore. - Well-known filmmaker Gus Van Sant, who has made many of his sometimes controversial films in Portland and is a local resident, has been arrested on charges of driving while under the influence of intoxicants, according to Portland police.

The arrest took place in Portland around 4 a.m. Thursday morning, according to Portland Police spokesman Sergeant Brian Schmautz.

The location of the arrest was not immediately available.

Van Sant has directed "Drugstore Cowboy," "My Own Private Idaho," "Good Will Hunting," "Finding Forrester" and other well-known movies.

1. Wonder if this has to do with the ridicule he received for his remake of "Psycho"?

I almost forgot about Drugstore Cowboy, it's an absolutely brilliant movie. Probably his best.

I'm hoping he was just caught with pot and not something worse.
