Ros-Lehtinen admits kill-Castro remark
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/16302798.htm

U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen admitted on Friday, through a spokesman, that she did call for the death of ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro during an interview with a British documentary-maker whom she had earlier accused of altering the video. ''Yes, it's in the documentary, she said that,'' said Alex Cruz, the congresswoman's spokesman.

Ros-Lethinen did not want to respond further, Cruz said, because ``she's focused her energies on issues that are more important for the community. ''Neither she nor I have seen the raw footage, without editing, but if that's in the documentary, she said it,'' Cruz said.

Since last week, as she is about to become the ranking minority member in the House International Relations Committee, Ros-Lehtinen has found herself embroiled in controversy about her credibility and her relations with the media. She appears in the British documentary 638 Ways to Kill Castro, saying: ``I welcome the opportunity of having anyone assassinate Fidel Castro and any leader who is oppressing the people.''

After a 28-second clip began circulating on the Internet, the Havana-born lawmaker claimed the filmmakers spliced clips together to get the sound bite. Twenty-four hours after the controversy erupted, director Dollan Cannell sent unedited tapes of his interview with Ros-Lehtinen to reporters. ''Ileana Ros-Lehtinen has made a very serious accusation against the documentary's crew,'' Cannell said. ``Her accusation is totally false and I would like her to retract what she said and to apologize.''

1. What a lying scumbag! Just two weeks ago, she said this -
There's one problem: Ros-Lehtinen, who has never hid her loathing for Castro, says the clip was spliced together.

Watch the video closely, she says. She says her lips aren't saying what the audio says she is. At one point in the clip, a sharp-eyed viewer can see what appears to be a skip in the filming.

''It's twisted in a way that gives the viewer a totally wrong impression,'' Ros-Lehtinen said Friday.

2. While I have no love for Castro
Edited on Fri Dec-22-06 10:39 PM by walldude
I met Ros-Lehtinen on a few occasions back in the 80's when she was just starting out. I'll leave out the usual euphemisms about women and just say she is one of the nastiest, meanest people I have ever met in my life. I saw her on Bill Mahr one night and was astounded at what a great actress she is as well. When she wants to seem likeable she's able to pull it off but underneath she is one nasty piece of work...

17. C-span had a piece with her visiting Iraq
She got a whole lot of face time and came across as quite grandmotherly. But I knew she was virulently anti-Castro, so the remark itself was unsurprising-the denial was an entirely different matter, however!

4. Wow, quel surprise!
This woman is an extreme loud-mouth who says many, many reprehensible things.

Ever seen her on any discussion shows/panels? I don't know why anyone would agree to appear with her... she could talk down a moose!

She is loud, obnoxious and just won't shut up... she will ALWAYS have the last word, even when no one else is paying her any mind. :puke:

18. Bill Maher smacked her down pretty well, and
had the panel and audience laughing at her and booing her. She even looked embarrassed, which I thought not possible for that POS.

8. Republican lawmaker of the month award!
For exhibiting those special qualities that we have come to expect from our Republican friends.

The total lack of interest in international law.

A desire to kill, kill, and kill.

A certain ease in being able to lie if doing so will help your career, and with a brazen chutzpah unmatched by others. this woman said something on tape, and she knew it was on tape, and yet she still lied and lied and lied.

Republicans are indeed *special*. No one embodies those qualities better than Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.

13. K&R - Caught in a lie and still trying to spin it.
From that quote in the article, Ros-Lehtinen's spokesman is
trying to rephrase the assassination remark and tell us again
that she really didn't say what is on the tapes. Even watered
down, calling for Castro's death goes way over the line.

15. 638 WAYS TO KILL CASTRO
638 WAYS TO KILL CASTRO
www.638waystokillcastro.com

638 Ways to Kill Castro is a documentary film which tells the story of some of the numerous attempts to kill Cuba's leader Fidel Castro. The film reveals multiple methods of assassination, from exploding cigars to femme fatales; a radio station rigged with noxious gas to a poison syringe posing as an innocuous ballpoint pen. Fabian Escalante, the former head of Cuban Intelligence, the man who has had the job of protecting Castro for many of the 48 years he’s been in power, alleges that there were over 600 plots and conspiracies known to Cuban agents.

Check out the clips from the British documentary that raises a whole host of fundamental questions about the US, their relationship with Cuba and Presidential authorization of assassinations.
