Terror Alert: readiness recommendations
Homeland Security gives recommendations to Whitley County agencies on terrorism readiness
By Samantha Swindler / Managing Editor
If the face of terrorism appears in Whitley County (Kentucky), it’s likely to be this scenario — one to three shooters in body armor, using explosives, chemical weapons or shoulder-fired weapons, attacking a public place.
That’s the MCT — or most credible threat — the Kentucky Community Preparedness Program found in their week-long study of Whitley County.
KCPP, funded by the Office of Homeland Security, visited 14 sites in Whitley County — including Williamsburg City Hall, the county courthouse, the Hal Rogers Family Entertainment Center, University of the Cumberlands and area schools — to assess the community’s risk level to a terrorist attack. Friday, Tom Lindquist with KCPP spoke to law enforcement and community leaders about their general findings.
Though Lindquist said activity from Hamas, Al-Qaeda, Hezbollah and the Mara Salvatrucha Salvadoran gang has been documented in Kentucky, a more common threat comes from domestic terrorism.
