Whoa, two earthquakes here in Berkeley in the last few days.
I just felt the second temblor a couple of minutes ago. It was much like the first one, which occurred about four days ago. It was a short, sharp shock. It lasted only a few seconds.

I survived the Loma Prieta earthquake in Santa Cruz in 1989. I've been through 7.0. I don't want to see 8.0. The one about four days ago was a 3.8 and was centered here in Berekeley along the Hayward Fault line.

I always have to wonder if these little ones are releasing pressure. Or are they shifting tectonic plate build ups from deep below? Are these the precursor rumblings of a biggie which is coming soon?

Sigh. I guess I'll know soon enough - no sense in worrying. But I am kind of feeling it...the way I was on that very day in 1989 when I refused to go on the spelunking trip we had planned for that afternoon "Because my stomach didn't feel right about it."

Ah well, in Santa Cruz we learn to ride the waves when they come.

2. I definitely "felt" the Loma Prieta before it happened
I had a crushing headache that built steadily for about three hours before the quake hit. I was actually outside walking up Sutter Street from downtown, because my head hurt so badly that I finally decided to just go home early.

4. Isn't it strange how our intution is usually right?
Reminds me of a few thngs that have happened to me in the past that influenced my life in a major way: Not going to Madrid during 3/11, because we just couldn't decide where to go, we lolly-gagged so long that our deadline for tickets passed. The day I had my motorcycle accident, something in my gut told me not to go riding, but I overrode my intuition and paid for it (not serious accident, just wrecked my bike though).

Trust your gut.

6. Or the cat
The day I had my accident in Florida while staying with my brother's family that morning his older cat went apeshit meowing and meowing at me. I didn't know what was wrong with this cat.

The following morning I was to fly out she was calm as a cucumber, or I don't think I would have gone.

7. We've had two small quakes in the Oklahoma City area this week, as well.
Small earthquakes aren't that unusual in some areas of Oklahoma, but Oklahoma City doesn't have any major fault lines, so this was really unusual. The first one Wednesday evening was a 2.6, and the second right after midnight Friday was a 2.7.

The scary thing was that there was a loud boom, and this area is right near Tinker Air Force Base. People were afraid that there had been an explosion. Apparently central Oklahoma has several earthquakes every year, but they're so small they can't be felt.

11. I've always heard that we do have earthquakes, but usually they're
too small in magnitude or too deep under the earth's surface for us to feel them. I've never felt one, but I've been through several tornadoes, and I'm fine with that, thank you very much.

No earthquakes for me, please . . . .

9.  I remember the one we had in 1994 Jan
My wife and I both woke up and both lit a cig , it was odd for both of us to wake up so early and at the same time for no apparent reason . A few minutes later the entire building began to shake violenty up and down and side to side and the power went out instanly .

It even tossed all the water out of the toilet bowl .

I'll never forget it .

10. The recent quakes have been right near Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claremont_Canyon_Regional_Preserve

They've been 528 feet from Claremont Ave. 1/2 mile from Tunnel Rd. And scariest of all, is that it is around a 1/2 mile from Route 24, with a BART tunnel right smack dab in the middle. Oh and yeah, its only a little bit further to the Caldecott Tunnel!

If there's a big quake, people may be trapped underground. My GOD DUers do not take that route anywhere for the next few days! PLEASE!
