ITALY's richest man has two complaints about US hospitals: bad food and ugly nurses.
Silvio Berlusconi, the billionaire media mogul who is now Opposition leader after losing the premiership, is due to be released today from the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, where he flew to have a pacemaker fitted this week.
He seemed to be back in form yesterday. When the anaesthetist asked if he had any allergies, the Forza Italia leader quipped: "Only to communists." He was reassured: "There aren't any left here in the States."

Mr Berlusconi refused the hospital broth, demanding scrambled eggs. But his biggest complaint was the nursing staff. "Italian nurses are better-looking," he said, the Corriere della Sera newspaper reported.

"These ones scare me a bit," he said. "Don't even think about leaving me alone atnight with one of them."

As a newly graduated US (male) nurse, I can say he's damned lucky to be treated by US nurses. We're some of the best nurses in the world. Our role is far more complex and we're more highly educated than almost any other country.

I'd LOVE to take care of that SOB if he ever comes into my unit. :evilgrin:

They are eye-candy for the Doctors to flirt with. The so called "best" hospitals make a point to hire the prettiest young nurses, and discriminate against the quote "ugly" ones. At least this is what my nursing friends from Korea, Japan, and the Philippines have told me. It appears it may be a similar practice in Italy.

they want to make sure the results are correct.

They insert needles into the muscle then check the electrical impulses while at rest and contracted. You don't want one of these. Trust me on this.

Your first clue as to what is in store for you is that they take you to a place where your screams won't be heard. I was tested in a room next to the boiler room. They tested my shoulder, elbow, and hand. The ones in the hand were quite distressing.
