Swearing on a Bible or Koran won't make a saint of a sinner. |
|
The moron saying he'd rather die than be forced to swear on a Koran is of course an idiot, he's a republican blow hard playing to the basest among his base, he of course will only take his oath of office with his pious hand on the Bible for all the world to see how holy and Christian he is, when actually he's an asshole of the highest order.
Placing one's hand on an ancient tome has no magical powers whatsoever, and is in fact from our cave man days. It's a mind trick that no one really believes, but they go through the motions anyway as a show to each other that they really mean what they say, or what they swear to.
Any idiot, good or evil, can place his hand on a seemingly holy book, and make a big hypocritical show of his supposed honesty and integrity, but I've never been impressed with this archaic ritual. So many liars and sinners and thieves and murderers have done this same silly ritual, and it proved nothing. Swearing on a Bible means nothing, but it is also more or less harmless. I don't care if someone wants to actually swear something on a Bible, but it proves nothing, and it impresses people less all the time.

went to goode's hometown thursday (or Friday) and interviewed some of the locals. I believe they are all related to goode and are just as ignorant. One local yokel insisted it be the St James bible. Strange that such nonsense goes on in the "land of the free." I guess no one in Ellison's district should have the right to vote. Praise Jesus!

And stone to death anyone who works on the sabbath. No doubt good "christians" will join in the strict interpretation of their magic book, unless of course, they are hypocrites (or work on the sabbath.) They do love picking and choosing, especially in Leviticus.
My interpretation. They primly swear on the bible to defend the constitution, a document their constituents want to destroy. My, my, they are complex.

So his oath is meaningless, unless someone actually held him to it legally.

I bet they even think Jesus read the "St. James Bible" and quoted from it--I've actually heard accounts of people who think this is so!

most FFV's are related. That's those who are descended from the first families of Virginia. It sucks when you do your genealogy and realize who you're related to. You start out thinking "oh, cool, I'm probably related to Pocahontas", and then you realize you're actually related to Pat Robertson. :puke:
When I traced my husband's family tree, his grandparents were basically cousins about 20 times over. Weird.

to hear hate being spewed. The level of ignorance by the masses never exceeds that of the leader.
Allow them to speak. Hold them accountable for what is said.

You would think that here in the 21st century they would have figured that out by now.

how can you tell the difference between a good old boy and a redneck? Well, the good old boy raises livestock. The redneck gets emotionally involved, and looks like Goode fits the latter.

14. A stack of 20 or so Bibles surely guarantees the oath will stick. |

Especially in such a God fearing pious man as tom.

the effectiveness of a person's philosophy is to see if that individual walks their talk. As you say, anyone can lay their hand on a holy book, but not everyone can act in the way that particular book prescribes.

Why haven't you started a journal here at DU? Maybe you have it turned off, I don't know. But you should definitely start one because you have such a way with words. Thanks. :hi:
