Stop paying taxes on the war - how2?
Well my wife and I have had it with this administration spending
our childrens' inheritance and laying waste to needed social
programs. We want to withold that portion of our taxes that go
to support Bush*t's war machine. (About 51% right?)

I seem to recall that back in ancient times (the sixties)
there was a way to do that without being thrown in jail
for the rest of your life. (Perhaps by paying the owed amount
to a charity of one's choice?)

Anyway we would like DUers' take on this...

Cheers!

1. There really isn't a way.
Even Henry David Thoreau went to jail for it when he tried it.

Remember also that your taxes also fund a lot of necessary programs, like Police, Fire, and so on that you benefit from.

3. What you heard was BS. Pay your taxes. Fight to end the war other ways.
Having been an accountant, I've heard so much on this topic in general. The tax laws are constitutional. You have to pay your taxes.

These booksellers who come on to shows will hook you with stuff like, "There is no law requiring you to file taxes - filing it VOLUNTARY and not required"

Guess what. They're RIGHT. What they're not telling you, however is that PAYING YOUR TAXES *IS* REQUIRED.

You don't need to FILE to pay your taxes.

I've been through the mangle myself and I can tell you it's not pretty. The IRS system is messed up - IMO I'm shocked at how inefficient it is and how a mistake on THEIR part can stay in the system for YEARS. What's the Republican solution? Cut spending!

Anyway, here's a nice link to an IRS page which describes, COMPLETE WITH COURT RULINGS, why all of these "talk show tax evasion" techniques are BS:

4. sorry...
i am a tax accountant and there is no legal way to avoid paying any taxes you owe. you can't designate a charity or other organization to receive the payment. if the irs doesn't get it they will come after you. and they seem to really get pissed at these kind of schemes.

you could have a consultation with an accountant to maybe set up some trusts for making gifts to you children as a way to lower the amount of tax that you pay
