Note to Evangelicals who are spreading the "good news"...
Jesus Christ died 2000 years ago, it's not "news" to anyone. :eyes:

I'm really damned sick of that one.

Merry Christmas everyone, peace on earth and good will to all men!!

1. Perhaps The Good News is That I'm Going To Hell
Along with most of the Founding Fathers and lots of other people that I'd like to meet, for not believing in the message of the evangelicals.

As Ben Franklin wrote:

"Here is my creed. I believe in one God, creator of the universe. That he governs it by his Providence. That he ought to be worshiped. That the most acceptable service we render to him is doing good to his other children. That the soul of man is immortal, and will be treated with justice in another life respecting its conduct in this. These I take to be the fundamental principles of all sound religion, and I regard them as you do in whatever sect I meet with them.

As to Jesus of Nazareth, my opinion of whom you particularly desire, I think the system of morals, and his religion, as he left them to us, the best the world ever saw, or is likely to see; but I apprehend it has received various corrupting changes, and I have, with most of the present dissenters in England some doubts as to his divinity; tho' it is a question I do not dogmatize upon, having never studied it, and think it needless to busy myself with it now, when I expect soon an opportunity of knowing the truth with less trouble. I see no harm, however, in its being believed, if that belief has the good consequence, as it probably has, of making his doctrines more respected and better observed; especially as I do not perceive that the Supreme takes it amiss, by distinguishing the unbelievers in his government of the world with any particular marks of his displeasure."

2. How about the Evangelical Atheists?
The fact that the Old-Testament god is fictional is very good news, IMHO.

4. No, I'm against all Evangelicals...
I think that one's religious faith, or lack thereof, is a very personal thing.

3. One interesting side note
to any lurking freepers out there who have swallowed the line that Muslims are going to make your forcibly convert: Sufis at least are NOT ALLOWED to proselytize.

5. Hilarious News Show
on NBC about the honorable Rep Goode's district and the horrible thought that a Muslim was elected to Congress. One of the honorable congressman's constituents said he isn't opposed to a Muslim in congress as long as he doesn't try to force his beliefs on us. My thoughts: We all know damn well that only "christians" can force their beliefs on others in the land of the free.

7. Well, I see ole Virgil succeeded in whipping up his fundie base...
they probably had no clue who Ellison was until Virgil's letter went out. The hypocrisy is just so astounding, it never ceases to amaze me at what depths they will sink to.

8. The actual "good news" is that anyone who is....
...in favor of...
  • Peace instead of war

  • Truth instead of lies

  • Caring for children, the sick, and the aged

  • True justice for everyone, rich and poor alike

  • Spending money on education instead of bullets

...is really on God's side, and He probably has your picture up on His refrigerator! I betcha some of y'all are going to be very pleasantly surprised when you get to the pearly gates!

Merry Christmas!!! :D

11. (cough) That'd be about Easter. Christmas isn't about 'dying." (Except for Bush.)
Indeed, I don't know why anyone ('believer' or not) would take the opportunity of any 'holy' day to express antipathy for the affirmative spiritual practices of others.

Bah, humbug ... and all that. :silly:
