New Who CD takes a jab at the Pope.
My apologies to my fellow DU'ers who are Catholics. I have nothing against Christians, but I loved this as a jab at all hypocrites who claim to follow a religion but seem to have forgotten the original teachings. You'll notice he manages to include leaders of other religions, as well.

A Man in a Purple Dress
How dare you wear a robe to preside
How dare you cover your head to hide
Your face from God.
How dare you smile from behind your beard
To hide the fact your heart's afeared,
And wave your rod
How dare you be the one to assess
Me, in this God-forsaken mess
You, aman, in a purple dress
A man in a purple dress

You are all the same
Gilded and absurd
Regal, fast to blame
Rulers by lost word
Men above men, or prats
With your high hats
You priest, you mullah so high
You pope, you wise rabbi
You're invisible to me
Like vapour from the sea

How dare you? Do you think I'll quietly go?
You are much braver than you know
For I can't die
Your staff, your stick, your special cap
They'll protect you in Hell? What crap!
Believe the lie
How dare you be the one to assess
Me, in this God-forsaken mess
You, a man, in a purple dress
A man in a purple dress

When you place your frown
Between my God and prayer
However grand your crown
Or dignified your hair
Men above men, or prats
With your high hats
You priest, you mullah so high
You pope, you wise rabbi
You're invisible to me
Like vapour from the sea

I lovingly mock you noble lords
We all dress up to grant awards
I do that as well
I dare condemn your fashion sense
At least you're not astride a fence
That would not sell
But I will deliver this address
Your soul's condition don't impress
You, a man, in a purple dress
A man in a purple dress

2. Yes, Endless Wire. It's excellent!
Includes a new mini-opera called Wire & Glass.

Of course, The Who is down to just Pete Townshend and Roger Daltry, but they also use their touring back-up musicians. Zak Starkey sounds just like Keith Moon on drums!

3. Was this written by the one caught perusing child pornography?
I believe it was Pete Townsend, but I can't remember for certain. Oh, that's right...he was doing "research".

6. Here's a link to it....
http://incestabuse.about.com/cs/childabuse/a/PeteTownshend.htm

On January 13, 2003, The Who guitarist Pete Townshend was arrested on suspicion of possessing child pornography on the internet. He was released after being interrogated and has not yet been charged. He allegedly used a credit card to enter a child porn site to obtain research for his autobiography, as he feels he may have been abused as a child.

However, it appears he was cleared of charges. I had not heard of a resolution until now when i looked it up:

According to The Smoking Gun, "London police today (May 7, 2003) cleared Pete Townshend of kiddie porn charges. But the rock star will still spend five years on a U.K. register of sex offenders because the co-founder of The Who visited a web site containing child porn images."

According to an article in Celebrity Justice, Mr. Townshend said he did break the law, but was doing research into possible child abuse in his own life. Officials said that he is telling the truth, but, as stated above, simply viewing this material is against the law. Mr. Townshend has been 'cautioned', which goes on his record and can be used against him if any wrongdoing is brought to light in the future. He has also been placed on a British sex offender registry.

5. He was cleared of those charges.

MAY 7--After a four-month investigation, London police today cleared Pete Townshend of kiddie porn charges. But the rock star will still spend five years on a U.K. register of sex offenders because the co-founder of The Who visited a web site containing child porn images.......

....As part of his "research project," Townshend drafted the below six-page treatise on the easy availability of child pornography on the Internet. So easy, in fact, that Townshend, 57, wrote that he accidentally discovered a photo of a two-year-old boy being raped when he typed the words "Russia," "orphanages," and "boys" into a search engine. Townshend claimed that he reached for his telephone and "intended to call the police and take them through the process I had stumbled upon--and bring the pornographers involved to ," but that he decided not to contact authorities after discussing the issue with an attorney.

7. Yes, just saw and posted
I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt. I mean, if you're going to view child porn, are you really going to be dumb enough to register for a child porn site using your own credit card?

9. Yes, the M$M only covers the arrest, not the resolution.
God forbid that they would mention that he was abused himself. Or that he was trying to demonstrate how easily accessable child porn was and he issued a paper on it - which was the reason behind his research.

Thanks for being open-minded! :hi:

8. And Sharif Baba has said
that isn't it silly to fight because you wear one kind of hat and I wear another?

What do the outside trappings have to do with what is true? Let us all join together and find That which is within each of us, honor it, and live in kindness and tolerance.
