Top 11 Most outrageous comments of 2006

Fox News host Sean Hannity, two months before the November midterm elections: "This is the moment to say that there are things in life worth fighting and dying for and one of 'em is making sure Nancy Pelosi doesn't become the speaker." <8/29/06>

Doooh!!! Didn't quite go as planned did it Shammity....

I know most of these have been discussed here already, but now they are all neatly wrapped just in time to pass out next time someone tries to use the "liberal media" mime....

*warning: These quotes will get you all pissed off which may not be a good thing just before the holiday.

9. wow...
I couldn't agree more. and to think (which I hadn't heard) that Hannity said keeping Pelosi out of her power position was WORTH DYING FOR says it all. Talk about hardcore, imbalanced, nuts!

And I never knew that Buchanan went off on that anti-gays rant involving the page program. Look, Patsy, there are lots of gay men who don't take advantage sexually of 15 yr olds, and secondly, gay men are typically more willing to work with children then regular men, in my opinion, at least with the ones I know. I was a closeted youth group counselor and I could only get women to help with 25 kids for 7 years (outside of the pastor), not one man would help. That made me think of the last straight male counselor I could think of who helped, I remembered when I was young, there was one married guy who I thought of as being a saint for working with the kids. Perhaps the children would FLEE if they had to be around you, Patsy!

I know I would've avoided youth group if it was run by Pat Buchanan, Geraldo Rivera, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Pat Robertson.

These rethugs are SOOOO out of touch it's scary. They seriously talk of killing anyone who disagrees with them, like Coulter. The MSM needs to axe anyone off the air who does this.\

5. Shows just how bad it really is
Must have been a *very* difficult job to narrow it down so much given that they spew this stuff on a daily basis. I only have to walk by a radio tuned to KOA in Denver to hear something off the wall, stupid or just plain mean. They've got the airwaves and cable signals saturated with this poison - we've still got a lot of work ahead of us. Media Matters is a godsend.

The majority of the comments involve inciting individuals or the country as whole to commit murder. Perhaps the introduction of a law to prohibit MSM pundit suggestions that promote bombings and assassinations is in order?

13. Didn't Ann Coulter also recommend poisoning a Supreme Court justice?
Or was that last year?

Anyway some of these are NUTS; I mean all of them are, but some REALLY make the jaw drop, especially if you're fortunate enough not to live near these people. (Not that I want to be too smug; you could probably come up with a pretty disgusting list from "The Sun" and "Daily Mail" over here.)

Beck: "Blowing up Iran. I say we nuke the bastards. In fact, it doesn't have to be Iran, it can be everywhere, anyplace that disagrees with me." <5/11/06>

WHAAAATTTTT?? Who is Beck? Why does he love WMD so much? Personally I'd like to keep the planet intact and inhabitable, thank you; I rather enjoy living and breathing and even letting other people do so. Odd of me, I know.

Savage: "I don't know why we don't use a bunker-buster bomb when he comes to the U.N. and just take out with everyone in there." <7/21/06>

Who is he? Savage by name, savage by nature. Why hasn't he been done for advocating terrorism?

Syndicated columnist and Fox News host Cal Thomas on businessman Ned Lamont's victory in Connecticut's Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate: "It completes the capture of the Democratic Party by its Taliban wing. ... hey have now morphed into Taliban Democrats because they are willing to 'kill' one of their own, if he does not conform to the narrow and rigid agenda of the party's kook fringe." <8/10/06>

What the FUCK has the Taliban got to do with Connecticut Democrats? And why is it all right for right-wing Republicans to constantly try to defeat moderates in primaries, but if Dems ever try to get someone more liberal, they are dangerous extremists?

Beck: "The Middle East is being overrun by 10th-century barbarians. That's what I thought at 5 o'clock this morning, and I thought, 'Oh, geez, what -- what is this?' If they take over -- the barbarians storm the gate and take over the Middle East (this is what I'm thinking at 5 o'clock in the morning) -- we're going to have to nuke the whole place." <9/12/06>

Beck, whoever he is, seems FAR too interested in WMD!!!

Savage: "My fear is that if the Democrats win , and I'm afraid that they might, you're going to see America melt down faster that you could ever imagine. It will happen overnight, and it could lead to the breakup of the United States of America, the way the Soviet Union broke up." <10/13/06>

What has Savage got against democracy? And is he REALLY saying that Bush is and should be a dictator like Stalin or Brezhnev, and that any softening of the one-party system will result in the break-up of the whole thing? I mean, that's what it sounds like!

Conservative syndicated radio host Michael Medved on the animated movie Happy Feet: The film contains "a whole subtext, as there so often is, about homosexuality." <12/11/06>

I think Freud might have had something to say on this...

"All-Out Civil War in Iraq: Could It Be a Good Thing?" <2/23/06>

HUH??? How could it be a good thing? How could even a right-winger suggest it?

"Attacking Capitalism: Have Dems Declared War on America?" <2/18/06>

Dems declared war on America??? Bloody hell, somebody likes a one-party state! And even the Dems are fairly capitalist by the standards of many other democratic countries.

"Dems Helping the Enemy?" <5/22/06>

Which enemy?

"A Lamont Win, Bad News for Democracy in Mideast?"

Lamont wasn't running in the Middle East! What's all this about?

"The #1 President on Mideast Matters: George W Bush?" <8/14/06>

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! You MUST be joking!

"Is the Liberal Media Helping to Fuel Terror?" <8/16/06>

Oh yes, of course Al Quaeda are liberals.

17. Like I said before...
Virg is a twat. Does he expect Jews in Congress to put their hands on the Bible too? The Bible swearing thing isn't during the official swearing in ceremony. It's during the personal ceremony held by each rep. It's freedom of choice. Does idiot Virg think that all reps are required to put their hand on the Bible to be sworn in? I think he'd be sorely disappointed by what he'd find in the Constitution on that subject.

But hey, I don't keep track of his appearance so maybe he's in spectacular shape now. I've known people who have used food stamps temporarily and they said they basically only let you eat highly processed stuff. No fruits or vegetables so either you get the processed stuff or you don't eat and of course that's what you have to feed the kids too. That at least 5 years ago, maybe it's different now.

25. Top 11 most outrageous comments of 2006

Looks like the SADISTIC NE-CON EVANGELICAL ACTIVISTS hate machine is fine and running in high gear.

  • Right-wing pundit Debbie Schlussel on Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL): So, even if he identifies strongly as a Christian ... is a man who Muslims think is a Muslim, who feels some sort of psychological need to prove himself to his absent Muslim father, and who is now moving in the direction of his father's heritage, a man we want as President when we are fighting the war of our lives against Islam? Where will his loyalties be?" 12/18/06

This little tid bit fits right in with the more recent pronouncements from The Hon. Virgil Goode and Sen. George Allen. These successful Republicans are showing the true colors of the RNC's southern strategy. Pander to all forms of intolerance and bigotry looking to form a coalition of hate to ride into office. Bigoted SADISTIC NE-CON EVANGELICAL ACTIVISTS, the dioxin of the earth.

30. Not so much pissed off as stunned and horrified, MZr7. I don't
watch TV and I listen to Public Radio or music. So, although I check in here as often as possible, I hadn't been exposed to many of your examples. I am having difficulty believing that public people actually said these things and that these same people are the role models and trend setters and thought molders of our popular culture. Sure, I've heard and read some of the comments people like Coulter and Hannity make. (Who is Boortz by the way this was the first I ever heard of him?) But, I find this gathering of so much ignorance and hate overwhelming. I have difficulty understanding why anyone would want to expose themselves to such filth and am horribly frightened and depressed to know that people do -- and so many people, so much of the time.

A sobering beginning to my day. But good to know what we are up against. K&R

Peace,

freefall

36. In truth, I don't agree with some of these
I don't think the Pat Buchanan quote belongs there. Sure, he's ignoring the fact that it was the Republican leadership that knew about the Foley scandal and hid it, but relatively speaking it doesn't belong on the list.

First, there were far worse / outrageous / influential comments over the course of the year. "Macaca" for starters.

Second, the omission he makes is not accidental. Its a purposeful attempt to divert blame for Foley away from the Republican Party. It's cold-blooded, ruthless, and amoral. But it is very logical.

Rush Limbaugh though... wow. The lefties made you the fat slob you are eh? Kind of like how all drug addicts are evil people and need to be imprisoned there? *Ahem*

"Mr. Pot?"

"Yes Mr. Kettle?"

"You're black."

37. The Average Republican Bush-Supporter
My sister is 69 years old. She's petite, pretty, funny, soft-spoken, and non-assertive. She doesn't attend church regularly, but she professes a strong belief in God. She loves to dance. She is a gifted artist. She lives in a home she owns outright in a deteriorating neighborhood near Houston, Texas. She relies on Social Security, less than a thousand a month, to pay her bills and put food on her table. She is an average elderly US citizen.

She finally worked up the courage to assert to me, her activist sister, that she believes that George W. Bush has been appointed by God to lead us into Armageddon and the Rapture. She thinks Bush is courageously and rightfully doing God's work, and that history will vindicate him. She listens to Rush and Billo, and believes that FOX is the only reliable news channel on television.

I've known for quite some time that my sister is a Republican, but she didn't reveal her neo-conservative bent until I commented to my recent house guest from New Zealand that Cynthia McKinney is the only politician with the gonads to file articles of impeachment against Bush, Cheney, and Rice. That's when the proverbial S**T hit the fan.

My sister is not alone in her beliefs. She and the many like her scare me as much, if not more, than the highly visible talking heads who spew their vitriol for megabucks. She and the many like her quietly internalize what these hatemongers say, then repeat their talking points--perhaps in less florid language--lending support and an aura of legitimacy to this small but powerful group. She and the many like her TRULY BELIEVE that Bush has been chosen by God to lead us into Armageddon and The Rapture.

I continue to explore ways to have a dialog with my sister--and others like her. Any suggestions are actively solicited and will be greatly appreciated.
