Elizabeth Smarts DAD is Capitalizing On ..........

Their year of almost daily press coverage by endorsing of all things......HOME SECURITY SYSTEMS sold at Target...in the ad Mr. Smart say's "if we would have had this in our home the night Elizabeth was taken it would have stopped the kidnapper before he got to the steps"

Frankly I find this disgusting and a poor excuse to further exploit their situation. Im witting Target.....Next the Holloway's will start promoting the chip as a way they could have been able to locate their daughter.....It's always the pretty blonde's that get the attention...

1. He happens to be right. And, having a child stolen out of
your home in the middle of the night is the stuff nightmares are made of. I don't blame the guy. They went to Hell and back.

10. I don't see anything
so wrong with it either, maybe it will help someone avoid the nightmare his family went thru. If the guy makes a few bucks off it ...

2. I'm sure he's getting paid very nicely for those endorsements.
Good for them.

3. He may need the money. God knows what this kidnapping cost
him, maybe in therapy for the family, especially Elizabeth and lawyers, which I'm sure he had to hire.

5. And, so what if he *is* exploiting the situation?
Crisis becomes opportunity, or something along those lines.

4. Target?! Um, yeah... Does it come with a bridge too?
Okay, maybe I'm a tad cynical, but those nice pricey subscription services do far more for the money than a $10 plastic toy from target that no neighbor is going to give a damn about, except to complain something's causing a loud noise. Rather like your average car alarm.

And the guy is peddling conjecture. He has no idea (just as I have no idea) if the plastic toy from Target would have helped.

If I were you, I'd write without getting too cynical or jaded. But something that's mass produced like this is bound not to be effective.

But I will admit, all that money he's getting must be paying a lot of legal bills. If only all parents of abducted/murdered children were so lucky.

6. He was wealthy to start with. And, I LOVE my alarm system.
When I enter my home at night, I know there is no one in the house. I've always been skittish, so it is tremendous piece of mind for me.

7. I'd only criticize if he's keeping whatever money Target pays him...

instead of giving it to charity.

There's nothing special about his daughter or the kidnapping (except for the fact that she actually wasn't killed), and there are plenty of families whose daughters have been kidnapped, but because they didn't get any media coverage, they don't have a marketable face/story like he does.

So, if it's done in a more sincere PSA-type way ("this really will save other families from going through what we went through"), and the profits go to children's charities, that's fine.

But if he's making a profit off of it, fuck him. He got lucky that the nutjob who kidnapped his daughter wanted her as his weird Mormon fundamentalist wife and didn't just rape her and kill her like most pedophile kidnappers; to make a buck off that luck is disgusting.
