Pythons threaten Everglades in Florida ---
from today's LA Times Sunday preview issue:

Pythons (snakes) are appearing in the everglades in ever larger numbers, and are voracious predators that threaten all other edible wildlife. The snakes are probably being dumped by people (my terms - stupid irresponsible idiots) who buy the snakes when the snakes are small and "cute" then realize the snakes are not so cute and maybe dangerous after a year or so when the snakes get over 6 feet in size.

Pythons and alligators have been observed in various death matches, each trying to eat the other, with fatal results.

the story does not recommend anybody being alone with a python that is over 8 feet long as the jaws can expand wide enough to eat a human, or at least attempt to do so with fatal results to the human and maybe the snake.

wildlife authories have launched efforts to roundup as many pythons as they can find. also under consideration, putting locator chips in all pythons sold in florida so they can be tracked if they are dumped in the wild.

more than 20 kinds of pythons are allowed to be sold in the USA.

end of comments from the story.

anybody who dumps a python that kills a human should be tried for murder. maybe sales of these creatures should be halted.

1. Hell yes the sale of those creatures should be put to a fast halt.
I don't understand why people are allowed to purchase animals that, when they mature, will be too much for them to handle. Or exotic pets that need such a sensitive environment that they die when taken out of their natural environment. Or people who raise an animal just to watch it fight another until one of them are dead.

2. Keep them down there. One more good reason not to go to Florida.
