The History Channel, "The History of Christmas"
It's enough to make a fundies head explode.

Back in jolly old England, it more closely resembled Mardi Gras or Halloween with folks going around to the rich, trick or treating, and demanding beer and whiskey. Drunken behavior, and public amorous displays.

The Puritans outlawed it, and made shops stay open, and churches stay close.

2. Heh ... I did a bad thing ...

Despite being the bad boy heathen of the family, some of my fundie relatives actually respect my opinion on historical things, so I suggested they watch this.

Christmas Day should be interesting if any of them did because I do plan on asking about it.

4. You should have warned them that there'd be a quiz later.

3. I want to see one about the origin of Santa
you know, the one about "gifts" under the trees (mushrooms) and the whole red-and-white theme (mushrooms again)

Santa seems to be one big hallucinogenic trip. Or something.

5. It was great - In short - Christmas as we know it is a shame
Totally made up of whole cloth. They took all that was good about the winter months and turned it into shit...

8. Have they updated this? They've been showing this for at least
5 years. Always a good waste of an hour, though.

9. I guess that's where we get carols like
"Here We Come A-Wassailing" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" where one line goes, "Now bring us a figgy pudding, now bring us a figgy pudding, now bring us a figgy pudding, and bring some right here. We won't go until we get some, we won't go until we get some, we won't go until we get some, so bring it right here."

10. I have watched that one every year
this year I will pass

but I can almost quote from it to fundies these days... the concept that the Puritans did NOT celebrate this pagan holiday in the mass bay colony usualy throws them into a tizzy.
