Resolutions For Our Earth
Edited on Sat Dec-23-06 10:46 PM by RestoreGore
As another year ends I sit and reflect on the year to come. It's become harder the past few years to be as positive as I once was, but I still continue to hope that the spirits that guide our Earth have not forsaken us. It is hard to not believe that sometimes looking at how much man has forsaken the Earth.

And that is not just in the physical sense. There is more to preserving this Earth than just the physical. There is a lifeforce eminating from her that sustains us that has increasingly been suffocated by those who do not see the effect that lifeforce has on all around them. It isn't something you can touch, but it is something that touches you.

I have always believed that how we treat our Earth is a direct reflection of who we are as a person. From something as simple as choosing to throw garbage in the street rather than dispose of it properly, all the way up to using our Earth as a toxic depository and taking no responsibility for the damage it causes, it tells who we are as a person morally and spiritually.

Pollution is only one facet of the telltale signs of the declining morality of mankind. The insistance that war leads to peace is another facet of mankind that challenges the doctrine of moral behavior also in corollation to how war affects our Earth. War is counterproductive to the balance of the Earth as we are seeing very clearly presently. Humans are also most happy when in their natural habitat... at least, humans I know including myself who respect and appreciate all the Earth gives us.

When I stand on a ridge at sunrise I behold the essence of the Creator and I too am filled with a joy that can only be described as euphoric perhaps even divine. I then know by the joy and peace I feel at looking at the sunrise that this is how life is supposed to be. Mankind was not meant to live in concrete, wallowing in garbage with war, despair, and hopelessness raging all around them. Mankind was meant to live in the glow of that sunrise, working the land, respecting it, and sharing its bounty in peace.

It may sound trite, but that is what I wish for in the coming year. However, I know that in this world of conditioned humans who simply cannot see all that this Earth gives us that seems impossible. That is because as a society we have gotten away from our closeness to and respect for nature and gotten closer and closer to that which is causing the imbalance we are currently seeing and it isn't going to happen in one year's time... But it can happen in our lifetimes and we can make it happen.

If each and every one of us would make a resolution for our Earth for this coming year whatever it be and stick with it, we can bring back some of that balance year by year until hopefully one day that peace and fulfillment we feel when looking at that sunrise on the ridge is something we can all feel from the doorways of our homes. But we are running out of time before that window closes.

So these are my Resolutions for the Earth for 2007:

I resolve to continue to do all I can in spreading awareness about the climate crisis and the global water crisis and their affects on our world and do all I can to address it in my own life.

I resolve to look into alternate energies and how I can use them to save energy and preserve our air, land, and water.

I resolve to make sure that my child is also continually made aware of the affects of climate change and all he can do as a young person in the upcoming generation to become more involved in taking care of his planet. If we don't start with our own children, we can never make headway for real change.

I resolve above all to be the change I wish to see in this world regarding this issue and all others that are important to the sustenance of this Earth, because no one person can do this alone. Therefore...

I resolve that I will also continue to fully support the work of the Honorable Al Gore regarding this crisis now. There is no more important issue than this for our future as the environment affects all else, and it is obvious that the people need more enlightenment on this issue and Mr. Gore is the man who is the best leader to inform, inspire, and empower people to action.

And finally, I resolve to continue to push Congress NOW to lead the way on this issue. The 21 st Century is here, and we cannot let it pass by doing things as we have in years past. Our Earth can no longer sustain that rapacious pace. This is not about political campaigning, this is about our continued sustainability and Congress must be made to see that it is their MORAL obligation to address this issue cogently, forcefully, and substantively NOW. Although, I do believe it will ultimately be the people and government levels apart from Congress that do the most work on this issue.

Earth is our only home, and 2007 must be the year that we the people take the torch from Al Gore and those who have given us the truth and resolve to be the stewards of this planet we were meant to be.

So, what is your Resolution for our Earth for 2007?

3. massive multinational corporations are the culprits . . .
until we reign them in and STRICTLY limit their activities, we won't make any real progress on environmental protection . . . or on solving any of our other major problems, for that matter . . .

4. I agree, and the operative word is "we"
It also won't be done just waiting for one person to "save us."
