HUMBUG!
Edited on Sun Dec-24-06 02:43 AM by Rosco T.
There.. I said it... I detest the holidays, I detest sitting here alone without anything resembling friends to talk to or see. I'm sick of this damn town and I want us to be elsewhere, but that's years away if then, and I promised I wouldn't bitch, but I can't stand it.

HUMBUG! HUMBUG! HUMBUG!

54 years worth....

whimper

Back to the brave face...

6. Let me sum it up by stealing a coupla of quotes....
one you'll know, the other you probably won't.

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain."

"It's like when you're a kid, the first time they tell you that
the world's turning and you just can't quite believe it because
everything looks like it's standing still.

I can feel it -- the turn of the Earth.
The ground beneath our feet is spinning at a thousand miles an hour,
the entire planet is hurtling around the Sun at sixty-seven thousand
miles an hour, and I can feel it. We're falling through space, you and me.
Clinging to the skin of this tiny little world, and if we let go...

That's who I am."

-----------------------------------------

No, I don't think people really want to hear them... most folks wouldn't believe them
anyway.. some are too stupid, some to evil, some I really want to remember, some I
pray to forget...

does anyone else remember Harry Chapin???

It was my first night in that rooming house.
In the last room down the hall
I heard a hoarse voice and an old guitar
Coming through the paper thin walls.
A crazy nonsense nursery rhyme
that did not mean a thing.
But for the first of what was to be a thousand times,
This is what I hear him sing. . .
Hold that D chord on the old guitar,
'Til I found the G.
Drop it down to old E minor
'Til the A chord rolls back home around to D.

I had to lay there listening.
It seemed he was in the room.
This stranger with his melody,
Singing there in the gloom.
And he repeated it over and over again,
Such a soft and sinkin' sound.
It was kind of like a music box that was slowly winding down.
You see, he sang it, he hummed it,
Whistled it, and he strummed it,
He laughed it and he cried it,
He did everything but hide it.
And he sang . . .
Hold that D chord on the old guitar
'Til I found the G
Drop it down to old E minor
'Til the A chord rolls back home around for me

So I lay there in that lumpy bed,
Countin' choruses instead of sheep.
'Til I banged on the wall and out I called,
"Hey bub I need some sleep."
The sudden void of silence, then I heard that hoarse voice say,
"It weren't so long ago boy, they paid me to play "

I said, "It's kind of late for music sir,
Two hours til it's daylight"
He answered, "I need my music most
In these dark hours of the night.
You see I've tried gettin' high on something son,
But it only brings me down.
Staying dry don't work out better boy,
'Cause my eyes get wet and I drown.
Won't you please let me continue
And I'll be in your debt.
You see I'm not singing to remember son,
I'm just singing to forget"

And he sang .. .
Hold that D chord on the old guitar
'Til I found the G
Drop it down to old E minor
'Til the A chord rolls back home around for me.

That's when I said,
"If I'm supposed to listen to you sir,
Just one quick question then.
Why in the hell do you sing one song
Over and over again?"

And this is what he said. . .

He said, "I gave her the music son,
She gave me the words.
Together we'd write the kind of songs
The angels must have heard.
Of course we'd fight like cats and dogs,
But life ain't no rosebud dream.
Still whatever we'd do everybody knew
We truly were a team.
I can't remember now if I done her wrong
Or if she done wrong to me
But all I know that when I let her go
That it did not set me free''
That's when I said, "You sound like what's-his-name"
He said, "That's who I am.
But you can't wrap a name around you boy,
'Cause it really don't mean a damn.
You see, a song don't have much meaning
When it dan't have nothing to say.
What she could do was magic son,
All I could do was play"

He started singing again.
That's when I drifted off
Maybe I dreamed what I heard
'Bout this stranger with his melody
Who'd gone and lost the words.
Hold that D chord on the old guitar
'Til I found the G
Drop it down to old E minor
'Til the A chord rolls back home around to D

10. Yeah, I was watching it earlier today....
.. massive SciFi/Comedy library I have (too massive I think at times...) Staying away from comedy right now.. for some reason it makes me leak.

Was watching an episode of Torchwood earlier... about cannibalism.. and I got a laugh out of it... I am screwed up right now ain't I?

13. Torchwood...
Edited on Sun Dec-24-06 04:23 AM by Rosco T.
Is DAMN good in my opinion... it's NOT The Doctor by any means.... but references the Doctor regularly.. very dark at times... and very adult.

Thus far, we've had

- an alien that takes over bodies and lives off sexual energy
- a village of cannibals
- one of the Torchwood team members being killed... several times
- a partially converted survivor of the Battle of Canary Wharf (the Cybermen/Dalek battle)
- fairies that are not so nice
- a story that proves the old agage of "Greeks Bearing Gifts"
- a story told entirely from the perspective of a dead man

I have someone in the UK record them on DVD-R and send them over, then I do a little black magic and convert them to NTSC so the will work on american players (and do it VERY well).
Don't EVEN count on seeing this on American TV, by the time they finished cutting it, the 48 minute episodes will be down to about 15....

I have the 1st 9 eps (3 discs) already converted and will get the last 4 right after the 1st (along with the the Doctor Who Xmas special "The Runaway Bride" and the pilot for "The Sara Jane Adventures".
Will be doing the same for the series starting in April/May

I can easily be persuaded to send discs to those that ask (nudge, nudge, wink, wink)

(Let's not EVEN get into the 90+ DVD-R's of MST3K that I've made over the last year (only about 20 to go..)

ok, fine.. something Christmasy...

3. Sometimes we can't help but let a bit of humbug out.
The perfect holiday is a Hallmark creation. I am sorry you are facing the holidays alone, Rosco. Been there myself. One year, I was fortunate enough to discover that a friend of mine was also going to be alone, so we went out for Thai food, and then went to a movie.

The other time, I ended up serving food and busing tables at a church-sponsored holiday party for street kids. That ended up being one of my best Christmasses.

Here's hoping that a friend or an opportunity comes along to make Christmas a little bit better for you. :pals:

5. Xmas is a very emotional time
Ride with it. I found myself crying tonight on Americas Most Wanted when a white woman rescued a tiny black baby girl and brought her back to life. There is hope for humanity.

15. It takes courage to face the holidays alone
been there, done that. Guess that's why holidays don't hold much for me any more. Better to appreciate each day for what it brings. Hang in there, friend.

17. It gets worse for me each year
I don't even see the homes around here with decorations anymore , it used to be festive here and you could walk on Hollywood blvd and run into lots of shoppers also walking and it was cold .

Now the entire spirit has been destroyed . We have not had a tree in 16 years and don;t plan on having one again .

I am 57 and things have changed so much in so many ways just in the last 6 years that I don't feel part of this so called america anymore .

I thought my parents when through a change but things remained pretty much the same in general until the high tech world came along and destroyed this forever .

I miss the old days with simple things and simple machines and alot less cars and madness . Malls and box stores , the horror of it all .
