No water? No worries!

Note the wording of this article... scientists and conservationsists who warn of a potential environmental catastrophe in Australia are guilty of "hysteria". Uh, yep. Nothing to see here. Move along, folks.

Australia ponders climate future
By Phil Mercer
BBC News, Sydney

Parts of Australia are in the grip of the worst drought in memory.

Rainfall in many eastern and southern regions has been at near record lows. On top of that, the weather has been exceptionally warm.

The parched conditions have sparked an emotional debate about global warming.

Conservationists insist the "big dry" is almost certainly the result of climate change and warn that Australia is on the brink of environmental disaster.

Other experts believe such hysteria is wildly misplaced and that the country shouldn't panic...

(snipping)

The Australian Prime Minister John Howard, who refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol insisting it would damage the economy, now believes, however, that serious environmental trouble is brewing.... MUCH MORE

No shit, Sherlock. You and your kissin' cousin George will be damned by the generations to come.

3. Nominated.
I was taught as a little boy that the day would come when clean water would be valued more than gold. In 1798, the Haudenosaunee prophet Handsome Lake told about what he saw in a vision, including some things about water. Without exception, those things are happening.

8. I have been fussing about water for years . My kids think I need
a net when I get started. I will not be around as I am to old but the water wars will make the oil wars look like kids play. Just wait to the rich countries/corp go after it for the bottom line.

10. Water? Heck, we can buy it! Geesh, everyone expects everything
free nowadays. Free air, free water, free sunshine. Whatever happened to bootstraps and pulling oneself up by them or whatever one does with whatever bootstraps are?

12. The other day I was watching a wrap up of the Prime Minister's questions...
and it at least appears the Conservative Party in the UK is sane enough to admit reality.

13. K&R
This is just the beginning of hard times in Australia and around the world. Downplaying the drought because "these things are cyclical" overlooks the fact that the life span of species is ALSO cyclical. If conditions cycle through to an environment that doesn't suit humans, then we'll join the Dodo in an evolutionary dead end.
