And -a-one, anna-two ....
JOHN LENNON
Merry Xmas (WAR IS OVER)
(Happy Xmas Kyoko
Happy Xmas Julian)

So this is Xmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Xmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very Merry Xmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Xmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Xmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight

A very Merry Xmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Xmas
And what have we done
Another year over
A new one just begun
And so happy Xmas
We hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very Merry Xmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
War is over, if you want it
War is over now

Happy Xmas

3. Merry Christmas to you
if we make it merry it will be by force, methinks

Throw the bums out, they're smelling the place up to high heaven. It'll take forever to clean this place back up, screw 'em and the white elephant they rode in on

14. That song always gives me goosebumps.

But my favorite holiday song is the haunting rendition of "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear," from the 1992 movie A Midnight Clear.

As a toast to H20 Man, and his never-ending good will, I dedicate to him my other favorite holiday tune:

Snoopy's Christmas

The news had come out in the First World War
The bloody Red Baron was flying once more

The Allied command ignored all of its men
And called on Snoopy to do it again.

Was the night before Christmas, 40 below
When Snoopy went up in search of his foe
He spied the Red Baron, fiercely they fought
With ice on his wings Snoopy knew he was caught.

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ring out from the land
Asking peace of all the world
And good will to man

The Baron had Snoopy dead in his sights
He reached for the trigger to pull it up tight
Why he didn't shoot, well, we'll never know
Or was it the bells from the village below.

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ringing through the land
Bringing peace to all the world
And good will to man

The Baron made Snoopy fly to the Rhine
And forced him to land behind the enemy lines
Snoopy was certain that this was the end
When the Baron cried out, "Merry Christmas, my friend"

The Baron then offered a holiday toast
And Snoopy, our hero, saluted his host
And then with a roar they were both on their way
Each knowing they'd meet on some other day.

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ringing through the land
Bringing peace to all the world
And good will to man

And good will to H20 Man, too. :toast:

15. It gives me goosebumps, too.
It's too right, too perfect. I heard it the other day when my family was out for lunch at a nearby cafe & I almost busted out crying.

23. Sam Phillips did the version in "A Midnight Clear." Changed it to minor key.
Gives me goosebumps, too.

24. Thank you, Hissyspit.
I'm now trying to find a CD of Sam's with that song on it. The minor key is what makes it so haunting.

Some interesting info about Sam:

"Sam Phillips began her entertainment career as a Contemporary Christian Music singer, where she made a number of albums under the name "Leslie Phillips". She began to be disillusioned with the Christian music business due (mostly) to its intolerance of her brutally honest approach to her faith, and around the same time she met and married T-Bone Burnett (who became her producer as well as her husband) and switched from the Christian record label Word Records to Virgin Records.
...
Trade mark
Pensive, intelligent lyrics dealing with issues of faith, grace, and doubt.
Opposition to religious and political conservatism."
