Texas Christian University graduate who became an Internet joke when he tried to hire computer hackers to boost his transcript has been unmasked as a top aide to a Montana congressman.

Todd Shriber, 28, was fired as communications director to Republican Rep. Denny Rehberg after an Internet blogger revealed his identity and he confessed.

Shriber couldn't be reached for comment. He had been held up to widespread online ridicule when the "hackers" strung him along with silly requests, including demanding photos of squirrels to "prove his identity," and posted all his e-mails – including squirrel photos he submitted – on the Internet

Shriber first e-mailed the operators of a computer security Web site in August, asking them to break into the database at TCU and change his GPA to improve his chances of being admitted to grad school.

Here are his email exchanges with the alleged hackers he tried to hire.
Below is the last one he wrote:

1. Stupid.
There's lots of sins you can commit. Maybe you'll get caught up in them, maybe not. This guy was a victim of his own greed. He had a bachelor's degree from TCU and was in a position of influenc in Congress. Not bad, apparently a young man with a bright future. But he had to have more. He just had to cheat to get into that grad school.

But the thing for which we are most likely to be called to task is being stupid. He's guilty of that too.

4. Hubris more than greed. So many pol-aids think they are so much smarter than everyone.
Nobody ever explained that lack of moral fiber or ethical inhibitions does not equal mental prowess.

So glad the hackers toyed with the wimpy would-be liar before they busted his ass.

While the GOP tries to place the blame for losses at Libby Dole's door, they go on surrounding themselves with people who have no honor and not as much brilliance as they think they have. Much as Libby Dole annoys me, the GOP finding some skirt to blame for their own failings smacks of misogynism and laziness. Blame the dame all ya want, boys, you are still heading for the toilet.

Here's to GOP pols and the bad company they keep :toast: Denny Rehberg, ya got re-elected last month. It won't happen again! Sleep with dogs and all that. Might be worth snooping around to see what sort of ethics others on staff have. Might start paying lots more attention to pals of Denny.

Pals of Conrad sank his boat. Maybe we can find Denny in the same dangerous water.
