Has anyone here ever had a tattoo done over a freckle or a liver spot?

2. No, don't cover the age spot with a tattoo.

You won't be able to distinguish if there are any abnormal changes
to the spot.

Just get it taken off at the dermatolgist --I've had spots removed, it's
fast, painless, and cheap.

I'm a professional tattoo artist of 18 years. I've tattooed over many people with freckles and it's no problem. I'm not sure if you're asking about a cosmetic application to make the spots not appear or just asking if it's ok to work over them. In the case of a cosmetic cover-up, I'd agree it would be better to simply remove the spots rather than tattoo over them, unless you're applying a design and not simply pigment matching your skin. Also, please keep in mind that if you tattoo over any moles, etc, with surface texture, ie; raised up, you run the risk of instigating skin cancer, so watch out for that.

6. Two spots on my arm...like enlarged freckles.

Dermatologist says no problem. He terms them "sun spots" but my friends have similar stuff and they call them liver spots. They are in no way raised on the skin. Anyway, I was thinking of having a lady bug tattoo over two of them, but first wanted some opinions. And if the tattoo person is ok with this, are these areas more painful to do?

20. i don't know the OP, but

that's not being fair.
DU is a great venue for our Democratic cause,
but what adds to it's attraction is the fact that you can post a question about
whatever you want, and you'll get alot of advice, some not-so-good,
but mostly of it is very helpful. And alot of the lounge people are
friends---on the internet and in person.

Anyway, there are some of us who don't even acknowledge

9. Liver spot removal

If you are healthy and with a Dr.'s backing try taking Selenium, Q-10, Vitamin D, Flax Oil, Beta Carotene and a good multi-vitamin. I have seen these work well especially the Selenium and lots a fresh green veggies.

Tattoos are not any better to look at than an age spot to my eye.

11. I live in the tropics and tend to freckle a great deal.

My dermotologist calls the larger ones on my wrist sun spots and says they are harmless, but I have tried several things to remove them without luck. Thanks for the advice.

Tattooing has a long tradition. Otzi, the 5,300 year old Iceman from the Alps had several. I know the pyramid builders had them 12,000 years ago and beyond. Marking the human body for superstition/religion, tradition, identification, and recent trends of modern aesthetics, is well-known. As an artist, I just can't see the beautiful human form more pleasing with them. And as a a watcher of fads, fashion and cultural trends, I place real significance in the human condition reflected in their wide-spread appearance.
