James Brown Obituary - Loved that Guy...
Edited on Mon Dec-25-06 05:18 PM by newyawker99
I apologize for this repeat, I didn't see the other posts on this.

ATLANTA (AP) -- James Brown, the dynamic, pompadoured "Godfather of Soul," whose rasping vocals and revolutionary rhythms made him a founder of rap, funk and disco as well, died early Monday, his agent said. He was 73.

Brown was hospitalized with pneumonia at Emory Crawford Long Hospital on Sunday and died around 1:45 a.m. Monday, said his agent, Frank Copsidas of Intrigue Music. Longtime friend Charles Bobbit was by his side, he said.

Copsidas said the cause of death was uncertain. "We really don't know at this point what he died of," he said.

Pete Allman, a radio personality in Las Vegas who had been friends with Brown for 15 years, credited Brown with jump-starting his career and motivating him personally and professionally.

"He was a very positive person. There was no question he was the hardest working man in show business," Allman said. "I remember Mr. Brown as someone who always motivated me, got me reading the Bible."

Along with Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan and a handful of others, Brown was one of the major musical influences of the past 50 years. At least one generation idolized him, and sometimes openly copied him. His rapid-footed dancing inspired Mick Jagger and Michael Jackson among others. Songs such as David Bowie's "Fame," Prince's "Kiss," George Clinton's "Atomic Dog" and Sly and the Family Stone's "Sing a Simple Song" were clearly based on Brown's rhythms and vocal style.

Brown's rhythms were ground breaking ....

Im not sure if you know this, but fair use copyright laws and forum rules dont permit the copying of whole stories in here .... You should have printed up to 4 paragraphs, and linked to the rest ....

8. I'd like to see his headstone say
"I can't Rock No More.."

In case anyone thinks I'm dissing him, and knows his style, at the point that he would say that, a stage hand would come out, drape him in a cape, start to lead him offstage, and then he'd bust loose, dump the cape and ROCK HIS ASS OFF.

A showman to the end, he's a personal hero, much of rock and blues sprang from him, so many FUNK meisters had to admit he is the GODFATHER OF SOUL.

Fuck, this makes me sad, all the great ones still dropping like flies, to be replaced with suffering little shits in their 20's who know nothing of life, and of course FedEX, the biggest poser of all time.

Sleep Well our Prince of Funk, welcome to the All Star Dead Band up in Heaven, Hendrix has been waiting for you :)

RIP James and thank you for many hours of pleasure listening and dancing to you.

10. The hardest working man in show business!
I saw him live in Monterrey, and that moniker fit him to a "T".

Very sad. He was one of the original GREATS! One of the BEST funkmasters of all time!

RIP godfather

14. We will miss him, but his music will always live on.
May his memory be eternal.

I guess God decided it was time to have some good funk playing up in Heaven. Still, he will be sorely missed here.
