I feel depressed on Christmas these days.
Ever since the invasion of Iraq, I did not feel in a Christmas mood every year since then. I get a little anti-social and filled with inner rage when Christmas arrived. Every time I hear Christmas songs, I cuss the "f" word in private. I never shared joy with my family and friends, thinking about the carnage our soldiers and the Iraqi people have suffered in Bush's illegal and immoral war of choice.

George W. Bush is responsible for making my life a living hell. As long as he is in office, I will never be in a Christmas mood, ever, until Bush is impeached.

My Christmas wish is that Bush will be held accountable for his crimes against the Constitution and humanity. He is far, far worse than Saddam Hussein, and every time he sends our troops to be slaughtered and kill innocent people, he makes Osama bin Laden's murderous act on 9/11 more and more justified.

Again, I will never be in a Christmas mood for the rest of my life, ever, until Bush is impeached, imprisoned, and pay for the horrific crimes he's committed.

That said, Merry Christmas, and hope for a dawn. It's always darkest before the dawn.

1. Dont cede to Bush that kind of power over your life.
See someone and/or take something for your depression.
We are more powerful when we are happy and fit.

2. Consider it just another day, dont stress it!
Dont internalize it.
We did our best pre- and post-invasion to stop the abominable war.

23. Bush worst disaster to hit the US is the reason for the gloom.
The Christmas spirit has been sabatoged. Try to find someone in need and give.

3. A year ago today
I had the worst flu of my entire life and it was rapidly turning into pneumonia. I had a temperature of 104+. I had been called the night before from Florida by a hospital saying my pop had been brought in after being found on the floor of his home. He'd had a heart attack and had been there for two days before a neighbor stopped by, heard him, and called 911.

My suitcase was half packed and sitting next to my bed.

It was a full two weeks before I was fit enough to travel. I probably wasn't fit enough then, but I did make it.

I had 3 weeks with him before he died.

To say I'm depressed this time is a gross understatement. Maybe next year I'll be celebrating his life.

Not this year.

4. You are allowing George W. Bush to control your emotions? Why?
Edited on Mon Dec-25-06 12:49 PM by Robbien
First, GWB is just a figurehead.
Second, why give the idiot that kind of control?

5.  I feel much the same
I lost my mother 4 months ago . This world has been changed so much that christmas is now a day I sit back and attempt to find hope but I have not been able to push through all the horrors of the last 6 years of this surreal insanity and still be able to see hope .

I can't handle the music this year because it makes the past rush in and it reminds me of how much we have lost . The shopping and commercials for me are evidence of ignorence for all who have been lost . For me I would expect people to use this time to help others who have nothing but this is only a dream .

9. Do some good deeds for other people who are in need or have less........
during this holiday season, it will help to lift your spirits and redirect your attentions away from the heinous destroyers of nations and people, residing in the WH. January 4th will be the start of a NEW BEGINNING, 'WE' all need to keep the pressure on the DEMS to make changes and do the right things; there is also much more work to do in preparation for the 2008 elections and the further eradication of more neocons from political office. Best wishes and good health to you in the coming year.

14. How do we transcend?
Edited on Mon Dec-25-06 02:20 PM by Gregorian
When we have clear dreams of how wonderful this world could be, we can really suffer. Because Rome is always burning.

Rome is always burning.

And that has had me down for so long. Since Vietnam.

I'm typing as I think. And I am speaking to myself as much as to anyone else. I guess you'd call it improvisational posting. And having just walked all around with an umbrella, watching the creeks full to their banks, I have a vision. It's like treading water. All around us there is the potential for drowning. All of the time we're there. If we don't rise above, we will drown. So we have to stay above the waterline. It takes effort. As long as we're there.

I see people who are brilliant with humor. I don't have it. I appreciate it. I want to find it for myself. There is animal emotions, and there is intelligent, creative living and thinking.

I'm saying that we can drown, we can float, or we can do something that transcends it all. Over time, when we've gained enough strength to stay above it all, we can then do more. If we know that there is something higher.

I mean that there will never be a time when things are ok here. There will always be a Bush, Hitler, Pinochet, Pol Pot. And even though I suffer more than most because of seeing how simple it would be for this world to be so much finer, I am also seeing now that since it won't happen, and since it will always be a part of things, I have to keep it in the context. And only practice, and a concerted effort, will be needed in order to be great, be happy, despite all of it.

Do we focus on the water all around us, or do we look to the air above it?

Let Rome burn. But don't let it burn you.

16. Reading your post, I am reminded why you are one of my favorite DU'ers.
I believe if you see someone who is drowning, you will be among the first to reach out your hand and help them.

Peace be with you this holiday season, in whatever form that peace may be for you. :)

Not sure why I said that.

You'll never know how much your comments mean to me. I tend to put everyone else up on a pedestal. That's the best gift I have had in a long time. I'll cherish it.

15. Get ready to transfer that anger from Bush to the Republicans...
Your going to see a little shell game go on for the next 2 years. Bush will become more invisible and the Republicans will become the champions of "fiscal responsibility". The GOP will try to cleanse Bush from the publics minds before 2008! I think Bush should be impeached because if he's not Jeb will run for President 8 years from now and we will go thru the whole damn thing again. But I don't think the Dems will do it. Although I don't know why. I don't believe any of the excuses they are giving. It's probably the damn DLC's idea to let him off the hook. If they do they could at least tell us the TRUTH about why.

24. I've hated Christmas for decades.
It's not just that I'm an atheist - honest. I like balsam and Santa and cookies and gifts as much as the next person. It's the expectations. It's the rare family that experiences a Norman Rockwell Christmas. The rest are disappointed and depressed. Ho ho ho.
