We had a surprise visit from Santa
My little boy went outside and hanging on the backdoor was a stocking filled with goodies and a DVD movie. He was shocked. With as little as there is this year, no amount of money could put that expression he was wearing on his face. I loved it!

My scrooginess, grinchness and depression went away through the night. I put up the tree, made cinnamon rolls and other goodies. The surprise visit along with everything else we've been doing today has made it a wonderful holiday. We do wish Hubby was home, but he's working out on the road.

There is so much to be thankful for and I'm starting with thanking DU. It was many of you here who raised my spirits. If you ever think there is so little good in the world come and tell me about it. I'll tell you about my great kids, our secret Santa (I have no idea who it was...everyone I spoke to denies this secret visit) and how some people really do care.

:grouphug:

Thank You and Happy Holidays!

6. I'm so glad to read this today...
I read your post last night and felt so sad I didn't even know what to say. This just really puts a smile on my face.

I remember one year when my oldest two girls were 8 and 3, we were really, really broke and I had to tell them that we couldn't even afford a Christmas tree, much less any gifts. They were disappointed, of course, but very stoic. As luck would have it, my ex got a surprise Christmas bonus on Christmas Eve and we were able to sneak out after the kids were asleep and get a little tree and a few presents to put around it. The looks on their faces in the morning when they came out into the living room were absolutely priceless -- the oldest one even had to reconsider her disbelief in Santa Claus -- and they still talk about that Christmas to this day, 26 years later.

These kinds of Christmases are so much more meaningful than the ones where everybody gets so many gifts they can't even keep track. You can't see the light until you've known the darkness.

Bless you and your family, Cynatnite, and I hope that 2007 will be a wonderful and prosperous year for you and yours.

8. I think this will be one of those they talk about later on...
The surprises they got with the tree, the cinnamon rolls, goodies and the stocking outside made all of this so much fun. Now, I'm very tired. LOL

Thank you so much and the same for you and yours. Happy Holidays!

16. Yes, there really is a Santa Claus.
My grandchildren get a kick out of a sign I hang over the front door at Christmas time. It simply states that, I believe in Santa Claus.

9. Yep!
I am so glad I did. It would have been a huge mistake not to do it. I feel all mushy inside.

12. Congratulations,
You are having the type of Christmas that memories are made of.

The best ones I have of this holiday, and I have sixty years of them, are the ones where money was tight and someone (my parents when I was young, and myself when I had children of my own) had to be creative in providing for the children and making Christmas a happy day. I'll bet your little boy was just as thrilled, or more so, to wake up to all the things you had done through the night as he had been to find the stocking on the door. I'll also bet, that in years to come this will be the Christmas that he will remember best.

Merry Christmas and I hope you have a very good new year.

19. I've done such a gesture with a welfare mother of 2 boys in my daughters
class. Our small public school has some of the largest homes as well as section 8 housing. While most of the children have too much, these two boys had a hard life at home. I tried to befriend the mother but she put up a big wall around her. I never see her or the children smile. I put together a number of gifts that were popular in their age group and several books as well. I filled a stocking with candy and fruit for each of them. Then I wrapped a gift box with 2 $20's for the mother. I'm sure she had no idea who it was from but I hope it made their day as well.
