Damned sad: Prussian Blue from Tehachapi gets press, but this girl???
Mining Tehachapi’s Musical Riches
By: Sonja Bronson, Tehachapi Community Orchestra

14 yr old Bryn Rosander

In Tehachapi, orchestral music is a hands-on community project.

The Tehachapi Community Orchestra (TCO) has grown far beyond the expectations of all involved and is now a point of civic pride. It’s an almost fairy-tale example of the power that an orchestra—and a shrewdly planned community engagement program—can have in transforming a town’s cultural landscape. This achievement, along with the uncanny determination of the Orchestra’s Board President and Concertmaster Gayel Pitchford, was recognized in 2005 with a Metlife Award for Excellence in Community Engagement.

....

As a result of her experience with music here in Tehachapi, Bryn hopes to minor in music when she goes to college in preparation for a career as an elementary school teacher.

Pitchford says, “We’ve got kids doing really productive things. I tell kids this isn’t so much about playing the violin; it’s about lessons for life. Lessons in teamwork, how to work together. Orchestra is like an intricate machine, and students have to learn to be a cog in that machine, to work with others to produce something bigger.

Arts advocates looking to prove the social worth of orchestras would do well to point to Tehachapi, which has quietly accomplished all the cultural goals that foundation studies have sworn come hand-in-hand with orchestras. The residents of Tehachapi seem to appreciate the positive effects the Orchestra has had on their community.

7. After my railroad job in Roanoke I will move my stuff
from to Tampa to Tehachapi. I do not know if I will like the place but I am tired of having to take an airplane to get home because Tampa does not pay

Somebody told me about Tehachapi and I checked it out and it has a low cost of living for California and I can contract in the LA area and be home on weekends...

While Tehachapi is in a red part of California, California is BLUE.... :)

18. I got some local papers from the Tehachapi Chamber
of Commerce.

It looks like I can get a one bedroom apartment for around $500-$600 per month. My goal is to move and get a temp apartment and check out the areas around Tehachapi. LOL and get a contract in LA. Money is always good. :)

5. To be fair she isn't a controversial commercial artist.
And I use "artist" in the loosest possible way.

8. True, just a damned shame it takes controversy to sell
instead of real, raw, talent.

11. That's the way it is, unfortunately.
Before MTV, we judged musicians by their music.

Except for their album covers, I had no idea what most of my favorite bands looked like.

Now it's nothing but manufactured idol-bots mass marketed to kids who have no idea they're being manipulated.

9. I see more mentions...
...of those god awful twin twerps on here and on TV shows (Law & Order, Boston Legal) than I do in reality. Seriously, the "white power" Mary Kate and Ashley are little more than an over-hyped invention of the seriously outdated and neaderthall set trying to rage against their own insecurity and impotence. And as is the case with most "stars" of their "caliber", their fifteen minutes will end about the same time the first one spawns a litter of little racists and begins showing signs of age. But 40 year old skinheads just LOVE them...what the hell ever. That's not controversy, that's stupidity in (semi)lyrical form.

13. If she were an athletic star instead of a violinist, she'd be all over the
national press and interviewed on all the talk shows.

The mass media have never been overly intelligent, but I swear, there is a concerted campaign to dumb the nation down and make people think that the only important things in life are sports and the sex lives of brainless celebrities.

15. So true - when she is 18
if she poses nude and gets in a scandal people will eat it up and her career will soar overnight. Real talent is so rarely recognized these days, seems damned sad to me.

She is but one of many talented young people - and what do they see? The only way to recognition is through scandal or sex.

(PS - my X girlfriend works for this paper so I read it often, which is how I came upon this story. She also runs the website for the paper).

17. Has anyone listened to Prussian Blue sample tracks?
Oh my God, they make Ashlee Simpson sound like Julie Andrews. Honestly, they are absolutely ghastly, and I don't see how anyone in their right minds would listen to it. I guess "right minds" is the catch here.
