Stiglitz was advisor to president Clinton, was in a high position with the World Bank, and recieved the Nobel prize for economy in 2001.
In 2002 he became famous for his fundamental critisism on the World Bank and the IMF.
Stiglitz is author of "Globalization and its discontents" and "Making Globalization Work". He now teaches at the university of Colombia.

For suggesting, simply suggesting that they reevaluate their positions, the World Bank fired him. He wasn't even allowed to resign, he was banished from the entire World Bank.
