The United States Capitol reopened to the public for tours on December 8, 2001. The decision to reinstate tours was based on an evaluation of current security procedures and public safety requirements; it is consistent with maintaining the highest level of safety for visitors, staff, and Members alike. For additional security, the new procedures have been implemented regarding items that visitors will not be permitted to bring into the Capitol. Click to see a list of prohibited items.

3. Those rules are for tourists.
Not for those attending meetings in the House or Senate chambers

Rules are more stringent for those sitting in the Gallery, as you can see above.

5. nope..
no T-shirts there, or banners either..
I guess the capitol police are enforcing the additions to the Patriot Act BEFORE they're passed.

9. Heard on CNN this AM-CP is referring to the House Rule that says
"Proper Business Attire" must be worn on the House floor.

The guy who was talking about this was a law professor and he said he believes their interpretation is WRONG, but that was the rule they used in ejecting the two women.

constitutes the House Floor.

12. They adjust their rules whenever it suits them. It's not here, either:
"Believing that the Capitol Police needed guidance in determining what behavior constitutes a demonstration,” the United States Capitol Police Board issued a regulation that interprets “demonstration activity” to include: parading, picketing, speechmaking, holding vigils, sit-ins, or other expressive conduct that conveys a message supporting or opposing a point of view or has the intent, effect or propensity to attract a crowd of onlookers, but does not include merely wearing Tee shirts, buttons or other similar articles of apparel that convey a message.”

13. I think they're applying the same rules that got those folks kicked out of
the Bush appearance because of their bumper sticker on their car.

14. Here is a "rule" they should be aware of....

United States Supreme Court
Tinker et al. v. Des Moines
Independent Community School District et al

http://www.bc.edu/bc_org/avp/cas/comm/free_speech/tinke...

"1. In wearing armbands, the petitioners were quiet and passive. They were not disruptive and did not impinge upon the rights of others. In these circumstances, their conduct was within the protection of the Free Speech Clause of the First Amendment and the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth."

Bush says Cindy's son and his brethren in the military died fighting for our "freedoms".

If our "freedoms" cannot even be expressed in the peoples house without being arrested by the state, what "freedoms" do we truly have?

Sadly, it appears that Casey did die in vain....his own mother, arrested in the peoples house, for wearing a t-shirt.

15. well maybe it's another turning point
now that they admit the whole thing was improper it's pretty breathtaking. they used the same tactics they use at bush's photo-ops when they expel anyone with impure thoughts, and they did it on live tv in front of the whole world.
