New Reagan statue temporarily displaced
http://www.nola.com/news/t-p/metro/index.ssf?/base/news-18/116711533452420.xml&coll=1

Where do you store a 9-foot, 1,300-pound bronze statue of Ronald Reagan?...

The statue of the nation's 40th president will be one of the features of the trailhead at New Hampshire and Lockwood streets -- along with an amphitheater, visitors center, bell tower and wading fountain.

Covington officials plan to seek bids on the $1.2 million trailhead project in February with construction expected to take about a year, City Councilman Trey Blackall said. But in the meantime, the statue commissioned a year ago is nearing completion and is expected to be delivered to the city around March.

"We need a nice Republican warehouse," Blackall said.

Myself, I'd always thought Gitmo would make a nice Republican warehouse...

This is right across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans, folks, so you can combine your upcoming trip to the city (you are going next year, right?) with hours of family fun. For openers, the wading fountain could just as easily double as a public toilet. Or, if you're coming over from Austin, bring a few bats along with you and put 'em in the bell tower, so the Reagan memorial will have bats in the belfry, in the interest of historical accuracy.

Come on, Evil DUers, do your worst!

it might spoil them.

3. I thought they would change
the name of this country to the United States of Reagan ...after all they had the majority and they seemed to want to give his name to everything in this country. I LIVED AND VOTED IN THE 80'S AND NOT FOR REAGAN, BUT CAN SOMEBODY EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT IN THE DEVIL HE DID DURING THOSE EIGHT YEARS. All I saw was a terrible recession. Poor economy, gas shortages and an assult of a small island. What's with these republican presidents starting wars against a small country.

7. At the visitor's center...
You could reprint all the signs in Spanish and post them over the English versions.

9. Yech..a statue to another idiot
is just what this country needs right now.

Your post reminded me of something discovered at our co-op today. When the toilet seat lid is in "up" position there is an "Impeach bush" label attached to the underneath. I was asked if I did it. }( Alas, I had to say "no".

12. Wading Fountain? In NOLA?
Edited on Tue Dec-26-06 08:22 PM by AnnieBW
Is this someone's idea of a sick joke???

I would suggest that this statue be stored at the bottom of Lake Ponchartrain, along with statues of Duh-bya and Brownie.

13. It is actually on the North Shore of Lake Pontchartrain
heavy-duty repuke country, and according to reports, now home to none other than David Dukkke.

A statue of Reagan in NOLA? What'd that be for, target practice? :eyes:

I had missed the part about the "wading" fountain! Covington actually had relatively little damage from the storm, and has, in fact, become a "Katrina boomtown" with many displaced people settling there. Which reminds me, Bush** thought Roe v. Wade was a discussion about how to evacuate N.O. :-)
