To the Editor,

As we gather for the holidays, our families nestled together in holiday glee, let’s share a moment of silence for those who won’t be sharing our joy. Let’s share a moment of silence for the families of five soldiers who died today, Dec. 21 — and add them to the 2,964 who have already died in this senseless war. Let’s share a moment of silence for the 46,880 soldiers and Marines who have been wounded and become ill because of the travesties of this war. Let’s have a moment of silence for the estimated 50,000 Iraqi civilians who have become a by-product of this war. And, finally — let’s have a moment of silence for our 18- to 24-year-olds as the violence escalates, and there is talk of increasing troop force. My oldest son is in Iraq now. I have two other boys at home. Hug and kiss your boys and girls this holiday season. You never know if it will be your last together.

How sad.

6. I have a coworker whose
daughter in the AF just volunteered to go to Afghanistan to replace army personnel. He is so mad at her for volunteering and worried for her safety. I hope all our sons and daughters are home soon.

I've received several emails and calls from local folks expressing their agreement and outrage...unheard of even a year ago.

11. when I wrote this,I didn't realize that one of the dead was a local boy.
I was just outraged at the fact that their was NO coverage at all.NONE.The fact that they published this kid's obit on the front page with my letter on page 2,was just a sad, strange coincidence.
