When did Discovery Channel start airing televangelists? |
|
I was flipping through the channels this past Sunday morning, when I stumbled across the Discovery Channel. There, to my amazement, was some televangelist preaching to his stadium-sized church. I clicked the Guide button on my remote, and sure enough, it was a regularly scheduled event - not "Paid Programming" or the like, but it actually showed the guy's name (can't recall who it was).
I know the Discovery, History, and TLC channels have all pretty much gone to crap lately, but this? To me, this might just be the straw that broke the camel's back.

2. They had a lot of stuff trying to justify |
|
the bible, archaeological digs by believers who were ready to twist anything they found into somehow fitting that book.
History, Discovery, and Discovery International were mostly war and bible. There was rarely anything worth watching on any of them.

3. I have noticed they have been doing a lot of Christianity slanted |
|
programming. The latest is the "Naked Archaeologist" I believe on the History channel except all it is about digs in and around Israel with attempts to verify Biblical stories. Also, their programming has become heavily slanted toward military shows and battles.

11. No kidding, but the original OP mentioned the History channel as well. |
|
Also, I don't really remember which channel it is on. It could be the Discovery channel.

4. Some cable companies "share" channels with the religiosos |
|
Adelphia used to "give" C_span1's channel to the Mormons once a month for 18 hours straight..of course I complained but it did no good.
If they want airtime..let them get their own channel, so i can block it like i do all the rest of 'em.:)
I have Dish now and that never happens :)

There are open areas listed on my on-line guide as "paid programming" where the Discovery channel listing (tvguide.com) is in my area. Nothing mentions any religious programming directly. My cable guide sometimes mentions the programs name Guthy-Renker for example.
Try Tv guide on-line for your area maybe it's just that your cable guide has that particular information at that time and not that the Discovery Channel is promoting that religion.

9. could you be more specific? |
|
You checked to see that the program wasn't "paid programming" but you don't seem to know the name of the show and you didn't give us the time it was on. Sunday was Christmas Eve and for a couple of years now Discovery has devoted most of the Christmas Eve schedule to shows about Jesus. Not televangelists, however. I am dubious about your claim. It would be helpful if you could provide something more specific about the time you were watching so someone can check the program guide to see what was airing at that time.

Contrary1 pretty much answered it for me. It was Joel Osteen. I couldn't place the name offhand when I wrote the OP, but that's it. Also it does make sense if Discovery doesn't start their programming until 9am.

http://dsc.discovery.com/tvlistings/weekly.jsp?channel=DSC&mm=12&dd=26&yyyy=2006&hhmm=0600So the culprit is your cable system (most are RW-leaning, surprise :sarcasm: ). Another MSM mystery solved!

15. It's likely your cable company |
|
Unless there was some mention of the channel during the show or promos, it likely was your cable company replacing the feed with different programming. Was the logo for the channel in the corner, like most stations do?

Call the cable company. Fuck that noise. The Discovery Channel is one of the only watchable ones left.

It was probably in the middle of the night. The local cable company airs infommercials and whatnot to bring in extra bread at like 2:00 in the morning or whatever..
