Even Grover Agrees...... Bush Broke The Law
Grover Norquist: Bush Broke The Law
White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan wants to make the controversy about Bush’s warrantless domestic surveillance program a partisan issue. Last week, McClellan issued this statement:

The NSA’s terrorist surveillance program is targeted at al Qaeda communications coming into or going out of the United States…Senate Democrats continue to engage in misleading and outlandish charges about this vital tool…It defies common sense for Democrats to now claim the administration is acting outside its authority…

It’s not true. Some of the most conservative members of the Senate have said they think Bush broke the law. Now Grover Norquist, one of the most important leaders of the conservative movement, declared the program illegal:

Referring to what some see as a conflict between fighting vicious terrorists and upholding all civil liberties, Norquist said: “It’s not either/or. If the president thinks he needs different tools, pass a law to get them. Don’t break the existing laws.“

18. Oh I bet Grover
is very nervous about some of that surveillance. Helping move that money around for 9-11 might not have been such a good idea after all.

24. Grover Norquist iis afraid,
according to the SF Chronicle report, that if Bush is allowed to spy, then another administration, say, Hillary Clinton's, could catch him doing something nefarious, like moving money around illegally, and not that Norquist is suddenly concerned about civil liberties violations by the Bush administration. It would set a bad precedent for him.

It's incredibly sad that Grover Norquist is willing to say something that the leaders of our own party are afraid to say.

,...out of any thinking individual.

The potential for abuse is huge. Haven't the neoconsters already proven their willingness to abuse power?

Bottom line, though: the prez and his administration HAVE committed a federal crime.

16. Now he must come face to face with what he has wrought......
"For 40 years we always assumed the left would take care of our civil liberties," he said. "If there were problems, the Democrats were the ones who would push back. But now with a Republican Congress and a Republican in the White House, the ACLU can't get their calls returned."

7. Unbelievable
There are a few Republicans that truly make my skin crawl and actually make me shudder.

Lee Atwater was one, KKKarl Rove another and at the very top of the heap is Grover Norquist.

I would never believed this blindly ignorant, partisan hack would EVER have said anything contrary to the golden nuggets that spew from *the little idiots* mouth. The fact that he has leaves me speechless.

This is profound. Surreal, even.

I have to agree with a previous poster. He must know he's about to get sold out and plans to do as much damage as he can on his way down.

I hear you.
Grover Norquist was at the top of my list also - in terms of disgusting rightwing operatives who have orchestrated the current misery for years.

His statements have been very weird and uncharacteristic lately.

14. GWB caught in a 100% proovable lie!
“Secondly, there are such things as roving wiretaps. Now, by the way, any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires -- a wiretap requires a court order. Nothing has changed, by the way. When we're talking about chasing down terrorists, we're talking about getting a court order before we do so. It's important for our fellow citizens to understand, when you think Patriot Act, constitutional guarantees are in place when it comes to doing what is necessary to protect our homeland, because we value the Constitution.”

20. Anything less from him?
Would you look for anything less than a Lie from our presidents mouth? Thats what hes all about, lying, and smirking that dumb smile. He wont even talk to the press about what hes doing, hes been told (By his coaches..Scary isnt it?) to answer hard questions with answers like "I cant divulge any information on that", so we are left in the dark. Its very sad...

...in less than 2 weeks, Grover must already be working on his plea-bargain. He's such a Yellow-bellied coward, I just knew this was coming.

So, if Grover is on the outs, I wonder if it's Frank Luntz who is doing the strategising now?

25. HAHAHAHA-this is what really scares him:
from the original article linked at thinkprogress:

<snip>

Norquist said one of his main concerns is that, once the government becomes so intrusive, there is no way to prevent continued erosion of individual rights.

"Even if you believed an angel was making these decisions, and that's not what I'm saying, at some point the person in the White House will change," he said. "Hillary Clinton might be making these decisions."

29. On a hopeful note.
Could this be one of the Aspens that is turning? Being an important leader of the conservative movement he must hold sway with many people and this may be a way to keep those masses quiet when Congress starts investigating the matter.

Bush must be beside himself after struggling through the SOTU, hoping to raise his polling numbers, and then to be cut off at the knees by Grover.

33. Losing Issue
This is a losing issue for us. It's best to table it until after 2006, otherwise we will lose more seats. This will be portrayed as the Reps. want to hunt down and find the terrorists in this country and the Dems. don't. You can try to explain it all you want but in 30 sec commercials this is what will come accross adn we will lose more seats in an election we should pick up seats.
