What qualifications are needed to be President?

The possible Democratic candidates for president came up as a topic of discussion, and as BIL lives in North Carolina, he was asked his opinion of John Edwards. His answer - he's just not qualified to be president. He went on to say that neither is Obama or Hillary.

So, BIL and cousin-in-law decided in their infinite wisdom that the candidate would be somebody nobody has ever heard of and that he or she will be sure to lose.

I'm not allowed to actually participate in these conversations, as I am a woman. So, I was unable to inquire - what qualifications are actually required - other than being a natural born US citizen and over 35 years old? What would actually satisfy their "need for qualifications?" Do they have to have a string of failed businesses?
