TSUNAMI -- 12/26/04
If the date on which more than 200,000 people were killed does not resonate as sharply in your mind as say, 9/11/01, ask yourself why not.

Having saved dozens from the gruesome annihilation that would claim 200,000 lives, a young heroine would later declare:

"It wasn't devastation or death that won the day. It was humanity that triumphed, The shining victory of generosity, courage, love."

Continuing cooperative recovery efforts further encourage and motivate us to help all who struggle.

2. Kick and Welcome to DU Herman74
:hi:

the idea of 200,000 dead is inconcievable to the average 'Merican mind, myself included.

4. Welcome to Du
and thanks for reminding us about the ongoing recovery.

Kick means that a DUer posts on a thread to move it, or kick, it to the top of the forum.

5. Thanks for the post. K&R.
Whenever somebody responds to a post, it is "kicked" to the top of the postings so it remains visible.

6. k&r for people
200,000 RIP. 9/11 resonates as a phrase, while 12/26 doesn't, but Tsunami! does. Thank you fo the post

10. We don't remember that date
because it isn't repeated to us about 10 times a day. If not for that repeating, I would have forgotten 9/11 too.

I couldn't tell you the exact dates of Katrina either, but I remember all 3 events very well.

11. I remember that date
Someone I knew in Portland was killed in the tsunami, one of only 36 Americans to perish in that disaster.

13. bet you think of it if you hear or read "tsunami", I know I do
one of the reasons I really hate the 9// stuff is because it emphasizes the date, or an emergency # rather than the event. Re-reading before posting and noticed my mistake but think I'll let it stay and maybe write it like that now.

Tsunami, Katrina, Iraq, 9//. The last led to Iraq occupation, same indifference led to Katrina aftermath. Tsunami was just HUGE.

14. Same as after 911
I was frantically helping my dad look for his friend on the lists of survivors. He wasn't on any lists, and he didn't survive :-(
