This may be the first execution of a celebrity. We are on a first name basis with "Saddam." This is going to be a gut wrenching spectacle.

Republicans will try to get people to gorge on hatred and exult in Saddam's twitching body and autopsy photos. But I don't see a world-wide catharsis here. IMO, the sense of the vast majority of the world will be one of nausea tainted justice, like watermelon sprinkled with detergent. More than 3,000 U.S. troops will have paid with their lives for this sorry charade by the time the curtain goes up. I don't expect Americans to fail to notice that.

I don't even want to hear a newscaster say the words that he'd been hung--much less any description of the event. I find lethal injection executions nauseating enough...
