Pentagon Considers Fast-Tracking Citizenship For Immigrants Willing to Serve
Click here for the whole story.

<snip>

President Bush asked Defense Secretary Robert Gates last week to come up with a plan to expand the military. But recruiters are finding it increasingly difficult to find recruits.

But does the U.S. really want to grow our military by adding foreigners?

The Pentagon still has to decide on specifics, such as English proficiency, but the wheels are clearly turning. The loophole that would be used is a a recent change in law -- thanks, Republican Congress -- that gives the Pentagon authority to bring immigrants to the U.S. if it determines it is vital to national security.

1. They won't take care of them if wounded
Hell they are not taken care of our own. Think about they just send them back to the countries they come from

2. So much for national security...
How low we've stooped - now we're outsourcing our military to mercenaries who get paid with US citizenship.

4. How does the Pentagon control immigration policy?
I understand that they have foreign fighters, and that those foreign fighters have the opportunity to become citizens. I don't understand how they can promise anymore than that without Congress' permission.

Just sayin'

5. they got the loophole from the republican congress
all they have to do is prove that it's vital to national security, and bam, we'll start letting in people who (literally) want to fight for their U.S. citizenship.

6. They've been doing it for over a year, not just considering doing it.
!!!

A caller told Thom Hartmann today that he has relatives in Peru who were standing in long lines to sign up over a year ago.

8. i don't think that's correct
they have allowed people who live in the U.S. but are not yet citizens to join, but this is a new policy, according to the Boston Globe's report.

11. Knowing how sick the GOP is, this could possibly the path to
citizenship for illegal immigrants. This is the way these people think, maybe, that will be used in conjunction with the recent ICE raids.

It scares me to think how evil some people are, but, hey it would kill to birds with one stone. How could anyone (racist, anti immigration) challenge the loyalty of a non citizen who went to war for the US? This was alluded to above, and I would not put a DAMN immoral thing past Bush. There is not one moral, decent, compassionate cell in his body, not one.
