What's up with CBS News???
I was watching Letterman and switched over to Leno for a minute and only seconds after that NBC News broke in with the news of Ford's death. So I switched back to CBS, no break in. I switched to ABC they had already broke in. Back to CBS, no break in. Then like 7 minutes later there's a little ticker tape bulletin at the bottom of the screen.

I mean I could understand maybe if the Letterman show was a new one but it was a rerun. CBS News is really becoming a joke. Rather wasn't great but hell he was serious about breaking news. Somebody could have gotten on the CBS News set and atleast kept the legacy of CBS News afloat.

2. Were two shows breaking in not enough? Try cable, get your fill of it.

6. That's not the point,
I'm talking about the history of what CBS News once was. CBS News was once the end all and be all of television news. I was basically refering to CBS News' legacy.

Plus I still have more respect for network news over cable news. I don't like cable news as much as the network news.

14. CBS doesn't care anymore about legacy
They told Dan Rather they were sick to death of hearing about Edward R. Murrow.

3. I was watching Letterman, and I saw an announcement.
I think it was on just before the show started, but I can't remember if the break in was from the network or the local station.

5. Katie Couric is no Dan Rather!
They are probably waiting for her to make it into the studio, so she can "break the news" for them. Too bad ... the cake will be in the oven by the time she arrives to break the eggs!

11. It's Xmas Week - How dare there be breaking news
Bet they let everyone in the news department be off - and I bet it wasn't just because it was the holidays. Budget reasons!

Eggnog on your face CBS.

15. CBS was sure in a hurry to tell us Arafat was dead.
Interrupted CSI NY to tell us that...like most Americans gave a damn about Arafat. Missed the last 10 minutes of the show.

Edited on Wed Dec-27-06 06:26 AM by DainBramaged
ALL are just a shell of themselves because of FAUX News. And the American people don't care about anything but Britney Beers and Pamela Tits and gruesome murder.

We're a jaded society. Who gives a shit if they are just a shell of themselves. This is the year of instant information.

All you need to know is Former President Gerald Ford died. He was 93.

18. Man...
who pissed in your corn flakes? Why do you have to be an ass about it? I was just simply stating how I felt about CBS News' current state. Everybody already knows the news divisions care more about ratings and advertisements rather then reporting hard news.

19. (sigh) I'm am ass? You think the news of his death differs between channel?
Jesus, we're about to hit 3000 deaths in Iraq and it's a big fucking deal CBS didn't cut in to report about a REPUBLICAN president dying?

Who gives a shit about the state of news? I look on my computer, oh news, ok. NO distillation, just NEWS. And a lot more and a lot more in depth than TV.

Piss in your own corn flakes.

21. First of all....
I never said it was a "big fucking deal" CBS didn't cut in. I was just making an observation and stating my own opinion. You're the one that jumped on me for whatever reason.

Of course I know it's the same damn news on every channel. THAT WAS NOT MY POINT! And you still don't get it.

"Who gives a shit about the state of news?" I do. It's nice you get your news from the internet. But not everybody has the internet in their home and don't have the same access to the same news you and I have. That's why I feel it's important that the 3 major network's news divisions stay on top of breaking news. Even if they do have to break into a "Late Show" rerun to announce the death of a former President. And Ford being a Republican should make no difference, I'd expect the same for Carter and Clinton too. It's bad enough they ran Dan Rather off for telling the truth about Bush's draft dodging. Now they're painting Katie Couric as a Hillary Clinton loving liberal (which I hope she is).

Like I said not everybody has the internet, and yes even in 2006 some people don't even have cable (no CNN, MSNBC, Faux News), and CBS may be the only clear channel coming through the antenna that night. So while we're here bitching about the state of network news some guy (who may have supported Ford) without the internet and cable is still watching stupid pet tricks because CBS News isn't living up to it's name.

Oh yeah about the Iraq death toll, CBS News "Up To The Minute" reports the death toll from Iraq every night/early morning. I know the Iraq War death toll. Some people here are all up in arms about Gerald Ford's roll in the genocide in East Timor which was over 30 years ago yet we have a genocide in Sudan going on right now. East Timor is history, Sudan is today. I say we should worry more about Sudan.

while you were watching Leno.

A whole thread wasted on a non-event.

23. I watched CBS news for 40 years. But, never again
They canned Rather for telling the truth about Commander AWOL.

The network corporate execs showed no spine, would not stand behind their own reporter.

Then they hire a pretty "news reader" with no depth to parrot the nightly news.

Lame. Totally lame.

They have lost this viewer.
