They said rotten things about every president that ever died.
Edited on Wed Dec-27-06 01:06 PM by Philosoraptor
All of them, some of them even before I was born. I used to hear people call Truman a bastard, I remember a guy whom you couldn't even mention FDR around, and I remember Kennedy being called quite a few rotten things the day he died.

The same thing happened when st. ronnie died, all day they said he was Christ returned on the media, and on DU quite the opposite was said. The same thing is happening today with ford, the same thing will happen with Carter, or any other recently deceased president.

Several here today will spit hatred at each other through the keyboard and some will stomp off in a huff forever, it happens EVERY time a politician croaks, especially a controversial or historically significant one.

Chill.

2. Quite the contrary, I don't mind reading people's opinions.
Express yourself.

12. I have to agree, no matter who dies...

there are scathing and idealized comments made by various groups.

I think people should be able to do so, though. If we don't agree, that's fine, but we shouldn't try to get them to stop. we learn from each other. :)

3. I was sitting at an easel in an art class when the news
that Kennedy had been shot came over the loudspeaker. A typically conspicuous Baptist twit near me said "Oh, good! I hope he dies!"

A lot of folks underestimate the load of hate these folks carry around with them and how tenderly they nurture it.

Ford was no saint, but he wasn't the devil, either.

4. yep

...that's pretty much how I see it. Let everyone give their opinion and I don't really care if it's not the same as mine.

Cheers

5. Having lived through the Nixon crimes I always felt that Gerald
Ford was a breathe of fresh air UNTIL the day he pardoned Nixon.

6. The evil that men do....
lives after them. These people CHOOSE to be public figures. They made decisions that still affect us. That stuff is always open to public comment.

I'm not happy he is dead. No doubt a great guy to watch a football game with, a good ski partner, and a good parent. I hope he did not suffer, and I'm sure that living to 93 is not a tragic death. I should live so long as my gradma would say. (she did, to 94)

But the death of public figures is always about what public decisions they made, and his record is not all that hot. Often the bad stuff posted here and elsewhere is just a counter to the glowing and fawning of the media at large.

7. I really couldn't care less about it.
His death affects me about as much as mine would've affected him.

8. You're one of the last people
that should be sermonizing about chilling. You make a habit of posting threads that are just shy of being flamebait.

10. My favorite are the Public Relations posters
My favorite are posts by people concerned about DU's public image. As if all these posters worked in DU's Public Relations Department. I agree 100% with your post.

I'm looking forward to the exodus of "I' leaving DU cuz we look bad" messages. Good riddance.
