Curtis Sliwa ===> repug asshat |
|
I posted about a week ago about the Guardian Angels moving into Orlando, and my concerns about their tactics, making citizen arrests, and detaining civilians against their will. At the time, I admit I really didn't know much about them.
So yesterday, I'm driving home, flipping through the radio stations as I normally do, and find that Curtis Sliwa - the head Angel - is subbing for Sean Hannity. The guy is a complete right-wing fascist. One thing that really caught my attention was him saying he didn't like Spongebob Squarepants, and that Spongebob and Patrick shouldn't be holding hands together. Only a friggin repug asshat would see some homosexual overtones in that!

1. Men who are unsure of their own sexuality |
|
find Spongebob threatening. I'm always amazed at the ruff tuff boys (sliwa, hannity, limbaugh) who have done absolutely nothing for their country.

12. His co-host, Ron Kuby is very left-wing |
|
I sometimes tune in just to hear him-- he's very funny and scathing-- in between Curtis's idiotic ramblings, tons of assaholic callers and a million commercials.

13. Yeah, but Kuby's no better... |
|
... being the token liberal on a right-wing station just means that you're helping the Repugs. He's sold out.

3. I listened to the same show driving home.. |
|
I've given some amount of respect to his brownshirts in the past, but not any more. Anyone who admires Hannity as much as he does deserves zero respect. He's a moran.

14. I did too- the part about the gift cards was hilarious |
|
Some guy called in about regifting and he said that he hated the gift card thing. Okay fair enough but then Sliwa chimes in with
"Yeah youse know they really wanna do doos ya? Here's der thingk see you goes inta the big box 'n mortar store what have you and theys want to caching-ching rise up the total at the cash box ya see oh sure yous gets a card for whaaat fitty bucks but no theys upsale ya to a hundud a hundudfitty bucks if yous not careful"
(that was a Virginians attempt at imitating a NYC accent)
Really? They just charge you money for no reason do they? You have no control what so ever huh?
I was laughing out loud...as I drove to use a cash card I got on Christmas.

but Sliwa succeeded out of sheer repeated application of vigorous effort.

His Guardian Angels is a vigilante outfit that satisfies the authoritarian tendencies of some guys who wanted to be cops but probably couldn't pass the psych tests. And the "Spongebob is gay" thing originated with another certifiable head case, James Dobson, who has seen fit to expend energy worrying about whether the fact that a cartoon sponge sometimes holds "hands" (which neither sponges nor starfish actually have) with his cartoon starfish friend means they are gay.
The idiocy of these people never ceases to amaze.

16. They're now in my neighborhood |
|
The local weekly praised them up one side and down the other for initiating patrols that go around the neighborhood. They signed up neighbors to take their classes and volunteer for patrols. I'm curious enough to see what it is they're telling people to do, but I would never want to be part of that organization. I remember seeing an interview with Curtis and Lisa Sliwa in the 80s (Lisa is no longer a part of this) when it was more about empowering people to take back their neighborhoods and teaching basic self-defense, but today it just seems like a regimented group that has a high potential for abuse. Since the governor has cut off funds for law enforcement, we've had police and firefighter layoffs so I think the police department is thrilled because they are way too overworked.
I haven't seen them on my block yet, they're a ward over from me, but they're spreading. I live in a diverse neighborhood and the non-Christians outnumber the Christians. We are represented by Keith Ellison, first Muslim in Congress, and if they try to put forward a racist, overly religious program, they'll get nowhere. I may sign up for their class just to see what exactly they're trying to pull. I don't trust them.

17. I saw him speak once at a local function |
|
People I know were bing honored. He was a total embarrassment- everyone was uncomfortable with his racist, sexist right wing ramblings- plus his whole conspiracy theory thing gets old rather quickly
He is a very offensive person= I couldn't wait for him to finish speaking. I wanted to take a shower after he spoke.
