My mother, a liberal, has never heard of the Downing Street Memo
Edited on Wed Dec-27-06 04:44 PM by crim son
yet she has bought the idea that the msm is liberal. I've assured her that there were other major stories barely covered or not covered at all by the msm, which would have had a dramatic effect on public perception of Bush before the 2004 election, had they only been made more public. Now I have to think of one. Anybody? I got the Downing Street Memo and nothing else. Help me, please.

So far, so good. Thanks, guys!

7. That is an excellent idea and I will do it.
I hate it when my mind goes blank under pressure. The RS article is just the thing.

4. Sept 24, 2005, Massive March on DC was blacked out by the media
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_24%2C_2005_anti-war_protest

There should have been big coverage, but there was barely a blip on the radar covering it. When it was covered (after the fact), the estimated number of protesters was greatly reduced.

10. Bush's TANG record...or lack thereof.
Besides some non-conclusive dental records, there is no evidence that Bush ever finished his stint in the TANG. In essence, he deserted his post during a time of war, yet the Corporate Media refused to pursue this story. They preferred to give more time and exposure to the Swift Boaters...

It's possible. All the guests leave tomorrow and I'm completely frazzled. I told her "memo" for sure!

14. What I did with my mom...
This was a few years ago. I asked her if she had ever heard of Chandra Levy in the media. She said "yes". (It was getting nonstop coverage right up to 9/11.) Then I asked her if she had ever heard of Lori Klausutis. Her response was something along the lines of "Lori Who?". I then suggested she do an internet search and tell me what she came up with.

Sometimes it's more effective to give a person a few tools, and then let them see for themselves where the search takes them.

My mother is intelligent, liberal, and computer savvy, but she still didn't get it about the media. Our present day corporate media is the most effective propaganda machine ever created by man. Give your mom a few pointers and let her figure it out for herself. Hook her up with this site. http://mediamatters.org/

15. That's what I did with the Memo.
I mentioned it while we were out together. When we got home, she asked, "What was the name of that memo?" and immediately started to research it. Hasn't said a thing, and that's a good sign. I know her.
