"DIRE warnings from China's first climate change report "
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20061227/sc_afp/chinaenvironmentclimatewarming_061227053330

BEIJING (AFP) - Temperatures in China will rise significantly in coming decades and water shortages will worsen, state media has said, citing the government's first national assessment of global climate change.

"Greenhouse gases released due to human activity are leading to ever more serious problems in terms of climate change," the Ministry of Science and Technology said in a statement.

"Global climate change has an impact on the nation's ability to develop further," said the ministry, one of 12 government departments that prepared the report.

Compared with 2000, the annual average temperature in China will rise by as much as 3.3 degrees Celsius by 2050, the China News Service reported, citing the assessment.

By 2100, average temperatures could soar by as much as six degrees Celsius, according to the news service.

2. Do you think **** will listen to the Chinese? Since they now own us,
perhaps our idiot-in-chief will listen to them. A few billion people can't all be wrong.

3. It's a bit late to stop the damage at this point.
You'd have to cut CO2 emissions due to the burning of fossil fuels down to zero to stop global warming now, and nobody is willing to make that kind of sacrifice. The only workable solution is to gradually cut back CO2 emissions and transition to something else.

That's akin to slowing a runaway train doing 100 down to 50 when you need to reach 0 instead. As far as climate change goes, the clock already ran out a long time ago for several island communities and coastal communities across the world, but it's probably not too late for the rest of humanity and for whatever species can survive the climate change.

4. China's Four Ds...

Dams, Diversion, Desertification, and Drought. And they have brought it all on themselves as well by wanting to be an economic giant. They are now starting to see that you have to balance it. And considering that 90% of China's groundwater is already polluted, they have no choice but to change.
