Bush twins' quiet return to DC
Bush twins' quiet return to DC

Before heading out to Camp David for Christmas with their family, first daughters Jenna and Barbara Bush returned to D.C. from Argentina and New York, respectively. The pair and a third friend were seen supping on the first floor of Café Atlantico on Saturday.

According to a Yeas & Nays source, they were laughing it up over plates of guacamole, ceviche, camarones and foie gras. They drank blackberry mojitos and the Dolium Reserva, an Argentinean Malbec that goes for $55 a bottle.

9. That has no appeal to me
But putting them on the front line facing Iraqis, well, now we might have something to discuss.

15. Yep. That's it, pal.
That's what we're going to get. That's it. Oh, and maybe Lord Pissypants will give us a gold commemorative coin and tease us not to "sell it on EBay." What a piece of shit we have for a prez. I HATE him.

6. Didn't their father tell us and them to go shopping? They probably
did that too. Good daughters. And some went shopping for leg replacements. I see I'm still very, very angry and disgusted.

7. I never knew what "white trash" truly was...
Edited on Wed Dec-27-06 10:11 PM by TwoSparkles
...until I got to know the Bush family. Those two girls are a couple of
do-nothing, wandering flibbertigibbets.

These people epitomize trashiness--to the extreme. They are an embarrassment.

They continually prove that money does not = class.

Yet you will find many here that refer to them as bluebloods.

These people are fronts for the worst kind of sleaze in America.

22. "white" trash
That's a phrase I've removed from my vocabulary recently, after reading a bit about it. The underlying message in the phrase is that most trash isn't "white." That's why we don't hear the phrase "black trash," or other ethnic or race specific "trash." Using the marker White sets it off from the "normal" sort of trash.

After reading that explanation, I can't help seeing the phrase itself as inherently racist. Note: I'm not saying you are racist, I've used the phrase myself in the past without really examining what I'm saying. But now that I have, it's not something I'll be using again.

23. They're cold, heartless jerks, just like their dad and rest of the Bush clan.
The article forgot to mention they were wearing the furs of endangered animals.

Some people respect nature and other living creatures, particularly when they're in a highly visible position and may shape public opinion. Others, like these two, flaunt how thoughtless and self-centered they are as though it's a badge of honor to eat the livers of tortured birds and drink expensive booze.

They should be in Iraq, fighting in a war their dad got our country into and won't get us out of.

17. Well, I love Malbec.
I opened an eleven year old bottle on December 23rd and it was the talk of the evening.

As far as the twins go, they should be in Iraq where their dad stuck the troops drinking from a canteen.

"Smirk, smirk" - Commander AWOL Bush

More than 1 million New Yorkers ask: food or rent?

Food or rent? That is the daily choice faced by about 1.2 million of New York's 8.2 million people.

Faced with that choice, mostly they pay rent and rely on emergency or charity food to survive, poverty activists say.

"It's a struggle," said 53-year-old Pierre Simmons, who has a part-time job, as he wrapped up a bagel from his soup kitchen lunch for later. "I have a job, but the cost of living is so high it makes it hard to buy food."

Hunger is not unique to New York. More than 12 million U.S. households -- or 35 million Americans -- struggled with hunger in 2005, according to the U.S. government.

27. I must not be well enough travelled or culturally versed but
what is a mojito? And I've never heard of a Malbec. Has a fine Shiraz or Merlot gone out of favor?

28. Mojito

is a rum and lime drink that has become somewhat faddish.

If you like Shiraz and Merlot, then try a few Malbecs. It is an popular red wine in Argentina, and there are a number of value priced labels from the Mendoza region.

29. you must have yourself a mojito you must
Edited on Thu Dec-28-06 09:32 PM by pitohui
it's sort of a mint julep with fresh mint only not with bourbon but instead made w. rum

it's excellent but have them muddle the mint in front of you so it's at its most fresh and delicious

oh yeah and as the other poster says, lime is used for the citrus rather than the lemon in a traditional mint julep

yowza!!!!

merlot passed from favor thanks to the movie "sideways," although i think a good merlot will always be in style unless you are brain washed by the movies, a shiraz is still fine, malbec is fine, variety be the spice of life
